No. They didn't cause more problems than they solved. Instead, they did indeed intelligently cut waste and fraud. While DOGE itself might be no more, we're still looking to cut waste and fraud. Apparently, there are multiple billions of dollars of fraud which have been found in the Medicaid and Medicare systems.
To have INTELLIGENTLY approached this they would have investigated each department, identified their function, identified what duties they carry out and how the interact with other agencies, identified what functions could be cut and why, made plans for how to phase out functions, services and agencies, or what other departments could take over functions or absorb them, and identified the waste/fraud/abuse. The people employed to do the work would have been properly vetted and passed security and background checks. They would have either had some knowledge of the department they were dismantling or taken the time to investigate and educate themselves. They would have sought legal counsel to make sure everything met legal standards.
Instead, we had shock and awe in line with the Trump doctrine of "Who's gonna stop me, boo?". People were being fired and then asked to come back after discovering they had a crucial role in our government after all. Or that the government acted in such haste that they had to reinstate them and pay them back pay. Many got essentially a paid vacation for months so we paid and got no work or benefit. Very efficient.
Monies promised in grants and various bills appropriated by congress were pulled back. People fought back in court and won, so the monies had to be paid out after all with a nice legal bill on top of it.
Agencies we rely on such as the NWS and people we rely on such as air traffic controllers were let go or offered early retirement. My weather apps haven't been accurate since.
Social security benefits have been delayed. People were cut off that shouldn't have been. Local centers were closed leaving people who often do not use or understand the internet without options for service, and staff cut so people were waiting hours for phone agents.
All our information was given to unvetted people and compromised. I think thst eventually the government is going to have to pay for credit monitoring for the entire country, which they will resist until one of Trump's buddies launches a service.
This is just for starters. Americans with children with special needs and in drug trials and a whole host of other situations were negatively impacted without warning. We have lost decades of expertise and other countries are more than willing to hire these people and fund their research and studies.
DOGE was many things, but intelligently operated was not one of them. It was a waste of time and money.
Executive Summary The claim that DOGE has cost more than it has saved cannot be definitively proven with the available analyses: DOGE publicly claims $160...
