It seems like Kansas is going to make driver's licenses for trans holders invalid, and have to re-issue them with a gender marker of the birth sex.

Why is it important what gender marker is on a driver's license?

Even given that, why not just change it when it is renewed the next time?

The point is in how they are going about it. There is no warning or discussion about this. They just voided the licenses and left those people with no way to legally get to work, buy groceries or (har har) go to the place that issues new licenses.

The point is to make them suffer because they are different, as that's threatening to many people on the right.

Is not a gender marker, it’s a sex marker. Sex and gender are not the same, as has been stated by trans people themselves.

A Kansas drivers license can take up to six years to expire. My guess is to have quick and uniform change.

Ok, so if they decided to remove weight why not just let everyone keep using their current drivers licenses until it is time to renew them at least.

Also I find it strange that Kansas officials can't deal with a gender marker instead of sex marker. They have already done it for some time. It isn't like you can see someone's gametes from the outside.

A few days is not even close to enough to get a new license. And some of them didn't get a letter until wednesday evening (as per your link).
