  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Meet the L.A. holistic doctor and wellness influencer who is Trump’s choice for surgeon general

Her newsletter recounts how, at the age of 35, after she moved to L.A., she embraced the “woo woo (aka, the mystery),” set up a meditation shrine in her home and sought relationship advice from trees.
She found some relationship help from a different Kingdom entirely.

Trump surgeon general pick praised unproven psychedelic therapy, said mushrooms helped her find love

Dr. Casey Means’ recommendation to consider guided psilocybin-assisted therapy is notable because psilocybin is illegal under federal law.

I think thats a very promising therapeutic avenue.

But I would not support a candidate just because they agree with me on this. Many (but not all) proponents of this and similar rely on a "woo" epistemology thats not suitable for a surgeon general.

(at least) Two Republican senators have not gotten to yes on her nomination.

Trump’s surgeon general pick, Casey Means, still lacks votes for confirmation

Two Republican senators told POLITICO they were undecided after Means faced tough questions on her vaccine views at a nomination hearing.

Senators of both parties pressed Means on her views about vaccines at the hearing. Means did not commit to promoting them and now has to convince at least two skeptical Republicans to back her nomination: Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, who told POLITICO they haven’t decided how they’ll vote.

The panel is split between 12 Republicans and 11 Democrats, so any one Republican could sink Means’ chances if Democrats, as expected, vote against.

Trump can generally have who he wants. However, the limit has been reached here as it should have been with Kennedy.

I think the key difference here is that Kennedy perhaps got a little more support to get him over the tipping point on account of him speaking to some things that actually were valid (chronic disease resulting from poor diets and processed foods were gripes that some people across the political spectrum have had for some time -- and most recently, heavily focused on in the right-leaning "man-o-sphere" as they call it)

Or, more succinctly, at the very least the "people need to get off their butts, workout, and eat a steak instead of playing video games and eating chips and soda" resonated with some people.

As where, it sounds like this person is into all the quackery aspects, and also into the left-leaning "hippy" kind of stuff (meditation shrines, communing with trees, etc...)

RFK and his band of cranks nominations have been the subject this thread since before inauguration.

You can discuss that in the new thread.
Personally speaking, I think it's fair game for this thread.

When discussing public health officials and nominations and such...it's fair to point out that there are differences in levels of quackery (for lack of a better term)

Which is why I noted in my post, that while RFK and this person in question both have some questionable stances on vaccines...

The major difference is that RFK had some ideas on food (and some stances on the pharmaceutical industry) that are fairly sound by objective standards that many people agree with, as where this person in question has the "cons" with little in the way of the "pros". People may mock RFK Jr. for working out in jeans or saying some "cringe" things, but his ideas about diet and exercise are better than what 80% of the population is doing. As opposed to this person, who evidently talks to trees....
