  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think part of the problem to understand what I’m sharing is that many think ,”well, if we see the apostles doing things in Acts or other places then we should to”

But they often misunderstand the context and they were doing certain things and the struggle that was at that time about the old covenant fading away and the time of reformation.

If we say “because the apostles did sonething we should to l then all believers would have to circumcise others as Paul did in Acts 16, go to the Hewish temple, sacrifice animals, keep the whole law and customs of the Jews, etc.

Peter did water baptize men in acts 2 but he was also going to the temple still, where the old covenant sacrifices and law was being practiced. Actually in Acts 15 we see that the Jewish believers had a great dispute about the Gentiles keeping the law and being circumcised to be saved, even this issue has not been dealt with fully then.
You are creating a straw man argument, since that is not what I said. Peter not only water baptized Jews in Acts two but also water baptized Gentiles in Acts 10.

Paul did water baptize and was glad he did not baptize more for the Corinthians were using the person that baptized them to show distinction between themselves and other Christians, so Paul has to be talking only about water baptism, since people cannot Spirit baptize anyone.

Paul never talks about baptizing people with the Spirit and does not mention Spirit Baptism or that his Gospel sermons were Spirit baptism.

When did Water Baptism cease?
Paul did not baptize many in Corinth that he preached the saving gospel to and they were saved by hearing it and believing it and they were then baptized by one Spirit into the body of Christ. And Paul said Christ sent him not to baptize lest the cross of Christ should be made of none affect.
This “baptism by the Spirit” is never referred to as “Preaching of the Gospel”.
I didn’t say Peter didn’t water baptize. But if you read closely Peter was still following the law and halskah law of the Jews in Acts 10. Peter did not go to the Gentiles before he had a vision and he still was under the dietary laws etc. even though Jesus said to preach the gospel to every creature in Matthew already.
John’s water baptism was not something taught by the Jewish religious leaders and they did not submit to John’s baptism. Christian water baptism is not something the Jewish religious leaders were doing, so how is it part of Judaism?
There are many baptisms in scripture but only one saving baptism and that is not water as I understand. To be baptized into Christ where we put in Christ is not to be baptized in water where we put water over us.
Acts 10:46… Then Peter said, 47 “Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.” 48 So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.

Peter has them water baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.

Paul said why Christians him not to baptize read it here,

1 Corinthians 1: 17. For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. 18. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.”

Notice it has to do with not making the cross of Christ of no effect. The cross puts to death all our works of the flesh or diverse washings and carnal ordinances or any work of righteousness that we can do to glory in our flesh. That is the reason as Paul says that Christ sent him not baptized as I understand from the clear text. He was not just talking about them dividing into sects and baptizing in others names.

Were a similar thing when severe pressing circumcision another work of the flesh to glory in if they did it fit salvation.

Galatians 6: 12. As many as desire to make a fair shew in the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised; only lest they should suffer persecution for the cross of Christ. 13. For neither they themselves who are circumcised keep the law; but desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh. 14. But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. 15. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. 16. And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.”
The "Clear reason" is as Paul says: 1 Cor. 1:14 I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 so no one can say that you were baptized in my name
Yes, anyone can do the actual water baptizing, but only Paul could give a powerful Spirit led sermon, so he needed to use his time wisely preaching.

You are creating a straw man argument, since that is not what I said. Peter not only water baptized Jews in Acts two but also water baptized Gentiles in Acts 10.
No straw man whatsoever, you are saying exactly that. You are implying that since Peter water baptized the Jews in Acts 2 we should also and dance Peter water baptized the Gentiles in Acts 10 we should also.

So you are saying that if they did something in acts we should also. But we see believers who were Jewish going to the temple and sacrificing and circumcising and keeping the whole law and Jewish customs zealously all through Acts as well. We even see Paul circumcise Timothy in Acts 16 yet he would not circumcise a gentile in Galatians 2 Titus. These matters are important as to why they did or didn’t do things. There is a context and time of transition or reformation when the old covenant was decaying fading away ready to vanish. But it hadn’t vanished for done yet.
Paul did water baptize and was glad he did not baptize more for the Corinthians were using the person that baptized them to show distinction between themselves and other Christians,
I showed that Paul told why Christ sent him not to baptize but you seem to not see what the text says .Paul said he was not sent to baptize lest the cross of Christ should be of no effect.perhaps read again what I wrote.
so Paul has to be talking only about water baptism, since people cannot Spirit baptize anyone.
I never say men baptize with the Spirit. Although Paul did lay hands on done and also said he wanted to impart some spiritual gift to them. .
Paul never talks about baptizing people with the Spirit and does not mention Spirit Baptism or that his Gospel sermons were Spirit baptism.
The teaching or preaching of the word ,when believed baptizes or immerses them in the name etc.
When did Water Baptism cease?
Hebrews 9 talks about the diverse washings (baptismos in Greek) and carnal ordinances imposed until the time of reformation. You don’t seem to address Hebrews 9 much.
This “baptism by the Spirit” is never referred to as “Preaching of the Gospel”.
While Peter spoke words in Acts 10 the Holy Ghost fell in them that believed.
John’s water baptism was not something taught by the Jewish religious leaders and they did not submit to John’s baptism. Christian water baptism is not something the Jewish religious leaders were doing, so how is it part of Judaism?
The diverse washings were many in OT. Johns figurative shadow of water baptism was among the many diverse washings the Jews did and any outward washing in water as well .So in Acts they were also doing these OT washings.
Acts 10:46… Then Peter said, 47 “Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.” 48 So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.
Peter was asking a question, and he was still under the law and following John water baptism as we see in Acts 11
