  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, the 2026 SOTU is tomorrow. So I figured I start a thread about it. Does anyone have any predictions? Non-alcoholic drinking game rules? I predict:

Ilhan Omar will have a sign and the squad will be color coordinated to make some solidarity statement.

Trump will have the family of a young girl who was murdered my an illegal immigrant and give them public recognition to which all the democrats will sit on their hands while everyone else claps.

Talk about the importance of getting Greenland.

Take a jab at Canada.

Brag about the talks with Iran.

Promote more tariffs.

Rainbow colors obviously.

Trump State of the Union updates: Erika Kirk among guests invited to attend speech

The president will use Kirk's attendance to say there has been a "tremendous revival of faith, Christianity, and belief in God in our country" and to call on Congress to "firmly reject political violence against our fellow citizens," the White House confirmed.

Other guests include the parents of Sarah Beckstrom, the West Virginia National Guard member who was killed in an ambush in Washington last November. First lady Melania Trump will bring two guests who will help highlight her AI and foster care initiatives, her office said.

[women's hockey team gets to be the butt of a joke in Trump's phone call while K$H chugged beers in the locker room.]

The speech’s theme will be "America at 250: Strong, Prosperous and Respected," which is a reference to the 250th anniversary of the founding of the country.

Democrats Have Settled On How To Rebuke Trump At This Year’s SOTU

Some will bring guests to spotlight Jeffrey Epstein’s abuses and ICE violence. Others will boycott the president's speech entirely

This year, Democratic leaders are encouraging members to either skip the address or keep their protests low-key, and most members seem inclined to follow their advice. There’s a big rally being held outside the U.S. Capitol, and inside, the most popular form of protest is bringing a guest in one of two categories: a survivor of the late Trump-linked sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, or a victim of violent behavior by federal immigration enforcement officials.

Several Epstein survivors will be in attendance.

Lawmakers are also bringing constituents who have been violently detained by Immigration Customs and Enforcement agents.

One of [Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn)'s] guests, Aliya Rahman, is a Bangladeshi-American and a disabled person with autism who was driving to an appointment on Jan. 13 when federal agents smashed in her car window, dragged her out onto the street, and detained her at a federal detention center where she claims she experienced severe medical neglect and violence at the hands of ICE agents, requiring hospitalization for assault.

Rep. Mark Takano (D-Calif.)...’s guest, 26-year-old combat veteran George Retes, was stopped by ICE agents last year on his commute to work. According to the congressman’s office, the officers smashed his car window, pepper-sprayed him, pinned him down by kneeling on his back and neck, and detained him for three days without charges, access to legal counsel, contact with his family or medical care.
“George Retes is a U.S. citizen and an Iraq War veteran, and yet he was treated like an enemy by his own government,” Takano said in a statement. “His story exemplifies the overreach and cruelty of the Trump Administration… I am honored to have George as my guest at the State of the Union. His presence will speak volumes.”

More than two dozen Democrats are boycotting Trump’s speech entirely, and instead participating in a “People’s State of the Union” rally focused on countering the president’s night of “lies and misplaced priorities.” [Some will have guests such as the above take their place.]

I'll save time:

Republicans: Orange Man Good!
Democrats: Orange Man Bad!
Everyone else: Why isn't a basketball game on?

Rest of the world: What a clown! What are you guys doing over there?

Putting someone on ignore.

The truth can sting.

Among the general public, Donald Trump is currently viewed less favourably in Australia than Xi Jingping, less favourably in Canada than Vladimir Putin and less favourably in South Korean than Kim Jong Un.

Less than 1/2 of Germans, French and Canadians now see the US as a reliable ally.

He just said he introduced a healthcare plan. Anyone have a link for that?

It's called "Don't Be Poor".

Those views from those countries concerning how well they see the Chinese communist leader and the Russian dictator and the North Korea dictator show the people in Australia, Canada and South Korea who believe that in a very bad light. In my opinion.

I agree that it's a worrying development, but I don't think it just puts the general populace of those countries in a bad light. I think it reflects on the state of US leadership and the approach the Trump administration has taken towards international political and economic relationships.

The Trump administration has:
  • Conducted drone strikes on civilian boats in international waters, then killed the survivors in follow-up strikes
  • Unilaterally and seemingly arbitrarily imposed (illegal) tariffs on all US trading partners
  • Financed, armed and supported the mass murder that is occurring (still) in Palestine
  • Supported the aggressor in the Ukraine-Russia war, ending material support for Ukraine and taking pro-Russian positions in negotiations
  • Ended participation in major international bodies and agreements (including the Paris Climate Change Accord, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the World Health Organization, the UN Human Rights Council, the New START nuclear testing moratorium and major international legal, development, trade and human rights agreements).
  • Abducted the leader of a Venezuela and taken control of their oil sector
  • Threatened to annex Greenland, the territory of Denmark
  • Threatened to annex all of Canada, while continually insulting the country's leaders
  • Threatened military intervention inside Mexico and Colombia
  • Threatened the sovereignty of Panama over the Panama Canal
  • Pardoned the former President of Honduras (who was serving 45 years for drug trafficking into the US)
  • Banned arrivals from more than 45 different countries and added strict limitations on another 25 or so.
  • Cut the US foreign aid budget by more than 50%
  • Interfered in the domestic politics of several allies, including funding anti-democratic and separatist groups
  • Insulted close allies, including most of Europe, along with Canada, Australia and Japan
  • Put financial partners, family and other cronies into major international positions

Is it any wonder that there has been an unprecedented international backlash, when the US appears to have abandoned the rule of law and institutions that have kept the world stable?

I'm not surprised at all by the extreme progressive left wing liberal spin that you have appeared to place on those events. On the other hand, I am thankful to my Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ for all the great things that have happened in this past year which reversed the each and every one of the failures of the Biden administration. I praise God that America has a President who is restoring the USA to greatness after we endured some of the worst 4 years in our modern history under the Biden administration.
