  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Supreme Court rules that Trump’s sweeping emergency tariffs are illegal

The case was never about the tariffs themselves. I personally see tariffs as a tool that can and sometimes should be used. The problem was the President used an emergency order justification that wasn’t supported by the law Congress passed.

For Trump, it's all about power. He openly braggs about threatening other countries with higher tarrifs if they don't do x action.
IMO, the USSC should have never stopped the tariffs last year while it decided on the case. Allowing the president to, as he puts it, "do what he wants', has resulted in tremendous damage to American businesses and consumer.

....Trump realizes he can go to 15%....at least temporarily:

“I, as President of the United States of America, will be, effective immediately, raising the 10% Worldwide Tariff on Countries, many of which have been “ripping” the U.S. off for decades, without retribution (until I came along!), to the fully allowed, and legally tested, 15% level,” the president wrote on Truth Social.

[...the rip off is the government imposed 15% TAX. ]

After the loss yesterday Trump announced a blanket 10% tariff, all countries.
Today he announced a 15% tariff, all countries.
Tomorrow don't be surprised if it's a 25% tariff all countries.

Btw, doesn't he already have trade deals in place since liberation day?
If there were actually any fully completed.

Under Section 122, he gets another 150 days.

150 more days of uncertainty and chaos.
150 more days for impacted small businesses to go out of business
150 more days for companies to hedge their bets and sit on their cash.

Bravo Donald. You really are that dumb.
I have a question, for anyone who wants, not specifically for Wing2000:
Can Trump renew these tariffs immediately after the 150 days are expired?
Can we see perpetually 150 days of tariffs?

The SCOTUS did not rule Trump could not do tariffs!! They (disgustingly ruled) his pathway could not be used!! He already has a different method for tariffs!!! It is my honest opinion the court should retract such. Every president has used tariffs in the past. Could it be that decision was made simply because it was Trump!!!!!!

The way I understand it, the new tariffs are under a law that he can use, however they automatically expire in 150 days unless Congress authorizes them. I beleive that was always a legitimate option, but one he didn’t use because control doesn’t stay with the Executive branch. So doubtful this will end up in court unless he tries to do something like after 151 days he imposes them again.

Of course, I could be wrong on that.
Yes, but he’s starting investigations on various other laws. By 150 days he’ll have other tariffs to take over.

I don't know how you say that with a straight face. EVERY judge who voted against Trump is an activist judge with TDS pushing an atheist liberal agenda.

Congress has about a 20+ percent approval rating. No president before Trump has gone to Congress
Oh, is that the approval level where they loose the power of the purse?

Of course they have a low approval when they can’t bring themselves to go against Trump. Checks and balances no more.

We got rid of checks and balances long ago, now it's just debit cards.
