  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is enforcement of immigration laws wrong?

Under our Constitution, everyone in the United States should enjoy certain fourth amendment rights.

ICE is operating outside the Constitution. They are not immigration officers, they are a poorly-trained paramilitary force who have arrested and detained thousands of citizens unlawfully and even killed innocent people in cold blood.

They are invading homes without warrants.

When the "law" is being broken by those who are supposed to enforce it, and when "the Law" is being interpreted by a 39 times convicted felon who breaks the law daily and dares Congress and the Courts to stop him, this Bible verse does not apply.

ICE is acting unlawfully.

Romans chapter 13, 1 peter 2:13, and Titus chapter 3 teach us to obey the law. Is illegal immigration ungodliness? Is it rebellion against God's government authorities?
Obey righteous laws. Laws against the stranger is against the law of love.

Is the admonition that if one is able to work and does not, then they should not get assistance also against the law of love? What of how people may understand if a hungry man steals food, but he’s still required to pay restitution? Both are found in the bible. If a hungry man is expected to follow laws against theft, how can we argue the immigration laws are against the law of love?

It is denying the stranger freedom.

No. Laws should either be enforced or if they no longer fit society’s needs they should be changed.

How the government is choosing to currently enforce immigration laws is wrong. Both morally and in many cases constitutionally.

But what about the sin of breaking immigration law? Every nation has immigration laws.

I don’t understand how your question fits with my answer. If we are enforcing immigration law (part 1 of my answer), there is no breaking of immigration law that is not being addressed. In the second part of my answer, I was dealing with the reality that enforcing the law can be done in ways that is wrong, both morally and legally itself.

Millions of people are breaking the law. Where is the sense of law and order?

It is denying the stranger freedom.
The other is denying food. The point is that the law of love can be twisted to justify anything. Being that there are lawful avenues of immigration and naturalization, there isn’t a supposed violation of the law of love. And since a naturalized citizen is a full citizen, there is no bias toward strangers.

You don’t get to pick and choose. Follow the laws of the governing authorities.

“Every person is to be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves. Therefore it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of wrath, but also for the sake of conscience. For because of this you also pay taxes, for rulers are servants of God, devoting themselves to this very thing. Pay to all what is due them: tax to whom tax is due; custom to whom custom; respect to whom respect; honor to whom honor.”

It is time to take the blinders off. Under current directives, the administration has expanded enforcement to include individuals with legal status, such as green card holders, visa recipients, TPS individuals and refugees.
The current administration, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has significantly shifted its focus toward individuals with no criminal record or infractions. While the administration officially highlights the removal of "criminal illegal aliens," internal data and independent reports from late 2025 and early 2026 reveal a different reality on the ground.
Recent reports indicate that arrests of individuals with zero criminal history have surged by over 2,400% since the start of 2025. So no longer can anyone claim these are people who are here " illegally ".

"The stranger who dwells among you shall be to you as one born among you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God." — Leviticus 19:34 (NKJV)

No. It is enforcement of violations, such as overstaying visas. The laws are already on the books. That some think that enforcement of existing law because they don’t like the law is most instructive. If you don’t like the law, work to change it; don’t ignore it because it’s inconvenient.

Maria, this is not the first time this in history when we’ve had a bad administration. There are always questionable actions. I agree with you with regard to how the laws are being enforced but I do not disagree with the immigration laws in general. The laws are part of the governing laws. The admonition in Romans 13 came at a time when the leaders of Israel were persecuting the Christians and when the Romans were putting pressure of the Christians to worship the emperor which led to the Neronian prosecution and the martyrdom of hundreds if not thousands. This was the political atmosphere when Paul wrote Romans and even under that the admonition is to be in submission of the government authorities. You don’t have to agree but scripture is clear. The blessing that we have in the US is that we can always vote out the bad administration on the next election, something that the early Christians could not do.

Take your pick to verify the facts.
FYI
The data showing a shift in targeting toward individuals without criminal records—including those with legal status—comes from a variety of sources, including non-partisan organizations and the government’s own statistics.
For instance, TRAC (Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse), a non-partisan data research center at Syracuse University, tracks ICE's own internal numbers. Their reports from February 2026 show that 73.6% of current ICE detainees have no criminal convictions. Similarly, the Cato Institute, a prominent libertarian think tank that frequently supports conservative fiscal and limited-government policies, published an analysis of leaked ICE data in late 2025. Their findings confirmed that nearly three out of four people booked into ICE custody had no criminal record, which they noted directly contradicted the administration's public emphasis on "criminal aliens."
Even FactCheck.org, which focuses on verifying claims regardless of party, noted that the percentage of detainees with no convictions or pending charges jumped from roughly 15% in early 2025 to over 42% by January 2026. While the administration's official position, as stated on the DHS website, is that they focus on "criminal illegal aliens" and national security risks, the data reported across these diverse organizations—ranging from libertarian to academic—consistently shows that the net has been widened to include non-criminals and those who were previously considered "low priority" or legally present.
