  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What actions should saved people do to get the most people saved?

What actions should I take to get the most unsaved people saved? It seems clear to me that salvation is not of my [or anyone's] own works but Christ's finished work on the cross. I think we as saved souls can positively or negatively influence the salvation of the unsaved; how can i positively influence the most souls; like soul-winning. It seems common answers are prayer, intitiative/relational evangelism or disciple-making, or living a virtuous life that reflects Christ. How about some other examples, it seems I am already doing those. I think a reddit thread I asked about this question is attached, but if you have any additional information for getting the most unsaved saved, check that it is not in the thread. Thanks :)

God gives each of us different 'gifts' (focuses, abilities, worldviews). I find myself in scorn of the premise from which the Title of your OP is drawn, that numbers of converts are of any importance. But then I reprimand myself, because while I think in terms of the Church (the Body of Christ) coming to know him better--i.e. "doctrine" (particularly the 'Doctrine of God, proper', and the ensuing dedication and worship that such study demands)-- I have to admit that is MY focus and worldview.

It's kind of humorous to me how God uses people. The Evangelist thinks that is the whole reason we are here --that the charter of the club is to get more members into the club. I'm just the other way around; I think the whole reason we are here is to come to know God better and to get closer to him, to learn what 'IN HIM' means, and to combat the myriad false claims about our magnificent God. But we both mean to 'grow the church'. And we both know that through us, even through our inabilities and ignorance, God is glorifying himself.

This is a good question that most Christians are pretty apathetic about. (Seen by how few people actually post in the evangelism area)

You mentioned prayer, relational evangelism (friendship evangelism), disciple making and being a good person but the one thing that is the most important was missed off the list.

Prayer:- People can be saved without prayer.
Relational/Friendship Evangelism:- You do not need to be someone's friend for them to be saved.
Discipleship:- People need to have a heart change first before they become a disciple. (If they have not had a heart change then they are simply following us to be good people. This has filled the church with many people who do good deeds who think that they are saved)
Virtuous Living:- Living a virtuous life is good but our actions or good deeds are not the power of God unto salvation.

The most important thing that was not mentioned in the list is that we need to speak the Gospel. The Gospel is the power of God to change hearts of stone to hearts of flesh and Jesus commanded us to "Go and preach" to all the world and tell as many as possible. There is much power in it. We need to trust that when we speak the spoken message, that it can change even the hardest person. So, learn how to say the Gospel and then tell everyone. Not only to your friends but to everyone.
A great place to learn is on YouTube. Living Waters is good as they say the Gospel in its fullest. They show the sinner that they have fallen short of God's standards and then once the sinner knows that they are in big trouble and need a saviour, they then tell them how Jesus paid the price for our sins and because of this, God can grant us grace and mercy.

So, learn how to say the Gospel, even to people you do not know and then take the risk. You will most likely fail a number of times but keep at it. People fail many times before they can ride a bike well.
And remember, that if you speak to 1000 people and everyone rejects the Gospel, then, you are still 100% successful in your mission. We have been commanded to tell as many people as possible. That is our mission. Then it is God who creates the growth in them.

But we both 'grow the church'.
Jesus commanded to go and preach the Gospel to everyone. But Jesus said this too, "The one who has my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves me."
If we say we love Him but cannot be bothered obeying Him by telling others of His great sacrifice (so evangelism), then how much do we really love Him?
While you are correct that that we should get to know God better and get close to Him, we cannot ignore His command. To ignore it would be unloving to Him and also our neighbour.
If Christ commanded us to preach the Gospel, how do you think we should obey that command?

I would get away from the saved thinking and start using receiving Eternal life (God's free gift). As saved can have a few applications that are not connected to receiving Eternal Life.

Ask people would they like to know how to receive God's free gift of Eternal Life. By believing in Jesus for Eternal Life. If you need Biblical support, The Gospel of John is your book to use, as it was written for that very purpose.

Like I said, evangelist. :p

For whatever it might be worth by way of encouragement, I can't help but tell people about God. I can't help but 'obey the command'. Like Jeremiah said, "But if I say, “I will not mention his word or speak anymore in his name,” his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot."

Or, Amos,
"The lion has roared—
who will not fear?
"The Sovereign Lord has spoken—
who can but prophesy?"

Also, I think it is worth mentioning, the gospel is the story of redemption. It includes all fact. It is not just a statement including the components sin, death, the cross, living forever, and such. Redemption was God's purpose from the beginning, and the only way we can be with him as his glorified particular people in a way that even the angels cannot be. THE Sons of God.

I don't have the gift of evangelism. I simply think that all Christians should share the Gospel. It would be wrong not to. James 4:17 says "Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin."

This is what it is like in me too. We are the same. This is the work of the Holy Spirit. They Holy Spirit was given so that we would speak and not keep silent. (Acts 1:8)

How beautifully said; I think everything you said @1Tonne is extremely reasonable. It seems as a college student who was less than two years ago, I want God to use me to get the most people saved by Christ. I think just need more advice on how to get salvations by the work of Christ on the cross. It seems my initiative evangelism/prayer/disciple-making is resulting in fewer salvations than needed; so how do increase the number of people saved?

Don't look at it as numbers. It will become discouraging.
Many people are very hardened towards the Gospel and in reality, the Gospel is offensive to most people (If you also use the Law with the Good News like what Jesus did with the rich young rule in Mark 10). So, don't expect many converts. And even if they do have a revelation and understand their sin and the cross, many love their sin that much that they quickly push aside what they have learned and fall back into their old ways. But there will be a seed in them that you have planted.

If you do need to measure it, measure it by how many people you get to share the Gospel with. Some people make a good target of telling one person a day (some days you may be able to tell more than one, while other days none. But an average of 1 a day).

NOTE: Often churches will think that they are successful in evangelism because they have a lot of people going to the church. But in reality, many of these churches are built on friendship and not the Gospel. So, friends invite friends to come and then they all start acting like nice people towards each other and they all think that each one is saved because they are nice people. But in reality, a lot of these people have not had a heart change and when they come into trials and disagreements in the church will simply fall away and never go to church again. But someone who has had a true heart change will not fall away. They may leave a church, but they will then find another one.

Simply obey and don't worry about numbers since you have no idea who will or will not be saved anyway. God my have put you here just to save one other soul. Or maybe even just to save yours.

The only thing we can do is to present the gospel message. In 1 Corinthians 1:21, we are taught that it is through the foolishness of preaching that men are saved. And there are many times in the gospels that Christ says that those who have ears to hear, let them hear. Prayer is a great adjunct, but unless an unbeliever hears the word preached, he cannot be saved.

Well said. Our mission is to tell the Gospel to as many people as possible. We could share the Gospel with a thousand people and if they all rejected the Gospel, do not feel as though you have failed. You were 100% successful. Our mission is to preach and then it is God who creates the growth,

Wasn't Billy Graham an expert on this? Oh, but, he's dead. He can't help us.
Even Billy Graham struggled in the early stages. He was preaching in the British Isles with very limited success when he met Dr. Stephen Olford.

When Olford first listened to one of Billy Graham's sermons, he said "Quite frankly ... his preaching was very ordinary. Neither his homiletics nor his theology nor his particular approach to the Welsh people made much of an impact".

But after a night of prayer that changed, and the next day the response and the numbers were quite different.

God uses different people in different ways. The Presbyterian pastor I had was an excelllent preacher. But he said to me once "I've heard Billy Graham preach. I don't want to bignote myself but I think I can preach just as well as he can."

"But here I am in an inner-city church with maybe 100 to 150 people here on a Sunday, yet he is heard by millions..."

Then he shrugged "Maybe God knows that sort of success would ruin me?.."

We don't know how God is going to use someone. Lazarus, Martha and Mary certainly didn't, nor did Saul on his way to Damascus. He wanted to persecute Christians but ended up writing 13 to 14 of the 27 books of the New Testament.

If you'd asked the other apostles what they thought of Saul as a potential Apostle before his conversion, they'd have run fifty miles in the other direction.

Tell them the truth, and lead by example, how many or how few this saves is not up to us, and it's not supposed to be primarily about that anyway.

Also, when apparently rejected, make sure that what they rejected is not just only you, or is not just only because of your own error on your own part or whatever, etc.

I can't count the number of times that happens, or has happened since the times of the Bible/Jesus Christ, etc.

God will hold those people accountable for that, etc. It's actually what taking his name (up) in vain actually means, etc. Vain also being a very important part of that, etc. See it all the time, etc. Hard not to see it since it's everywhere, etc.

God Bless.

Most of us will never know the impact our sharing of the gospel will have on others. Some may be lucky enough that some they reach will reach out to them and share how that encounter changed their lives, but most will never have that validation. One assurance we have is in Isaiah 55:11 that tells us that God’s word never returns void.

Isaiah 55:11 (NASB95) So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.
