This isn’t about Trump. This isn’t about tariffs. This is about how long it takes to build things. That holds true regardless of who’s president or if there’s tariffs. And the only time I’ve seen construction expedited, it still took about two years, and that’s with a project fast tracked.
From PolitiFact:
Trump overstates pace of factory construction
'Trump said, "We right now have more factories and plants being built in our country than we've ever had before."
Factory construction remains at a high level compared with recent history, but
most of the increase came under Biden, and there
are signs that that boom has faded under Trump, particularly when measured by overall spending on construction of manufacturing facilities, which experts say is a key metric.'
In other words, it was going well until he took over. Now it's not. And the biggest movement in the automotive industry is EVs. But from here:
10 Major U.S. Factories: Openings and Cancellations in 2025
'According to E2, an environmental group, 16 clean energy and EV-related projects worth $8 billion were canceled in Q1. By May, that figure rose to $15.5 billion, wiping out an estimated 12,000 jobs that would have come with those projects.'
Yet...
'Still, several large-scale manufacturing investments are forging ahead, signaling where U.S. industrial growth may be strongest over the next decade.'
But this is a direction that Trump
doesn't want to go. He is
against renewables. He is
against EVs. He
denies global warming. He is
encouraging fossil fuel use. From here:
Trump repeals landmark climate finding
'President Donald Trump's administration has revoked a formal scientific finding that has been the central basis for US action to fight climate change. The Obama-era "endangerment finding" served as the legal basis for federal climate regulations, setting limits on greenhouse gas emissions.
It determined that carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases threatened public health and welfare.
Curbs on vehicle emissions have also been axed.'
He is marching in the opposite direction to the rest of the planet (and the US public - see below). It can be clearly stated that a lot of companies are doing their best to help US manufacturing
despite Trump. Not because of him. From here:
Analysis: Trump takes victory lap after biggest climate rollback yet
'In the US, 63% of Americans say they are worried about global warming, compared to 37% who say they are not worried,
according to a 2024 study by the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication.'
Roll on the mid terms...
