thank you, i will behave in future i never want to be locked in my room again it was horrible, i told my parents how much i hated it, and they said thats the point of punishment to improve and correct poor behavour, plus deter future rule breaking, what does deter mean ?
It means to instill fear of consequences. That’s the whole point.
yes i see, i must admit i do fear being locked up again, it fills me with dread, the boredom , loss of freedom etc, my parents have warned me if i misbehave again they will not hesitate to lock me in my room again is this fair ?
They are the parents. It sounds like they are doing their upmost to keep you on the right path. Instead of asking if your punishment is fair, you should ask yourself if your actions are fair. You should not worry about being put in time out in your room if you have no intention of breaking the rules again. Maybe ask these questions of a professional.
i have no intention of getting in trouble again, just the threat of punishment and being shut in all weekend is enough to make me behave, after i served my punishment, my parents set my another 4 page essay to write, i had to describe how i feelt about my punishment, did i regret what i did to my sister, and was the fear of punishment enough to make me behave, my parents said the essay was to make me confront head on what i had done wrong, and why harsh punishment is sometime necessary , my parents said education is a very important part of punishment , they said its rehabiltation what is that ?
Sounds like they are very wise. And maybe the consequences taught you something. If all else fails. Seek out family counselor or speak to your school counselor. Rehabilitation is a term used to restore someone to health and the right state of mind providing the tools to help you deal with whatever issue that comes up so you do not fall into old self destructive behavior again.
i have heard that word used for those in prison i thought it just meant to punish ?
so the essays were for rehabilitation and being locked in my room was obvously for punishment ?
i found the essays quite a challenge, my parents marked them to make sure i took them seriously ?

The parents are also to blame. They are to set an example and haven't done that.
