  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Kirk Cameron spoke with ChurchLeaders about his recent roundtable discussion on hell, a conversation he titled “Hellgate.”

Cameron said he did not expect the controversy and was surprised that the sharpest criticism came from “his own team” in the church, not from atheists.

With the help of Christian apologist Wes Huff, Cameron gathered Gavin Ortlund, Dan Paterson, Chris Date, and Paul Copan for a two-and-a-half-hour theological discussion centered on the eternality of hell.

“Hellgate” was birthed out of a father-son conversation between Cameron and his son, James, on a podcast episode released Dec. 6, 2025.

I don't know whether I agree with whatever Mr. Cameron's beliefs are about hell (videos are time-consuming, so I didn't watch it), but I emphatically agree with this:

“What I realized is that when you’re a dad and you have children and you want them to believe the gospel and you want them to believe the Bible, we would be foolish to think that they don’t have questions.”

“We can’t be afraid of those questions because if we’re afraid of the questions, guess who’s not afraid of them? Siri, Google, Grok, ChatGPT,” the actor and evangelist said.

As Christians, as teachers, as parents, we have to engage the questions. Silencing the questions doesn't make the questions go away; it just makes people look elsewhere for answers.

I dunno, I'm kind of a simple man and one thing I've found over the years is that if the Christian community has a term for what appears to be abhorrent doctrine/theology and there's loads of scripture disproving it, one should be very careful what they do with it. I go back to the scriptures and they clearly state that the unsaved are in torment for eternity. That's pretty clear to me and, if you have to engage in extreme mental/spiritual/scriptural gymnastics to prove your belief, I'm going to say good luck and God bless and be on my way. ymmv

My view is that separation from God equals annihilation which is Eternal torment.
As God is the Maker and supporter of everyone and everything, the withdrawal of His Spirit leaves nothingness.
Every accused thing shall disappear.... Revelation 22:3a
