  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Ive posted this before and got basically no replies, I need help, I cant discern it.

I cant discern this situation. I wanted a car, I found an 89 truck that I liked. I couldnt afford it, but my parents came and gave me a no interest loan for it. I went to the lot and it was covered in rust, the salesman was like "Well we have this 92 model, same truck, just a different trim" and he brought me over to it. Somehow it only had 15k km on it. I took it to a mechanic to have it checked over and he was just like "how the heck did you find one this clean??? What the heck? This is a gem! This thing will serve you 20 years with proper maintenance". I asked him if he thought the odo had been rolled back as 15k is an insanely low amount of km for a 34 year old truck and he said "absolutely not, this is way too clean underneath. Theres no wear on the pedals, and the underbody is so stupidly clean. This is a truck that has only driven 15k and then sat in a temperature controlled barn or something ever since!" As I was thanking God for His PROVISION i get a deep internal gut feeling that says basiacly "this wasnt My provision". Like I really don't know how to explain it. There were no words, just this weird knowing in my stomach area? Ive had the truck a month now, and besides two basic fixes 9clogged fuel filter and dead battery) she has served me faithfully every day. I really can't tell what God is saying, if that impression was the Holy Spirit or what??

Please help.

Discerning when a feeling is the voice of God and when a feeling is just our own minds is challenging. Maybe this internal gut feeling was God's voice, but maybe it was just your own anxieties. If the truck is serving you well, I recommend that you just relax and enjoy it.

Don't ever buy a shotgun for it, they will marry each other.. Long story made short as possible; I was once pulled into a Yahoo scam and "I won't say what kind or for how much" this was under 20 years ago when I had an old Frankenstein S10/Gypsy "GMC Version" that was really serving me well, and an old 12g shotgun that I wish I'd still had today. however, while I was in the midst of the scam the other party wanted me to wire $200 for my legal payments "A lawyer was involved as a middle man"; My Mossburg 500 which I did not honestly know today how much that gun would be worth today. but I only got $150 at the pawnshop. I never followed through with the scam but eventually five days later after I sold the shotgun my truck was breaking down on the way home and out of luck after I got home it was never started up again...

To stay on topic -- If you look at it from this prospective, Everything we own is on loan from God; If you don't need it, you wouldn't have it. And be grateful I don't own a black and red 67 stingray; because it would have only fueled my obsession in that time. Don't go seeking money and if it ever crosses you, use it wisely...

Discernment is more for spiritual warfare than acts of presence. There is a big bit of difference in that acts of presence are out of God's kindness and a show of good faith. While Discernment is more of deciding if the voices in your head are angels or demons. If you ever come across a need to, you need to offer obedience to God in a noticeable way and seek a sign from the angel that he is trustworthy.

The Bible teaching helps us understand how God works in our life. Here are a few scriptures;

Christ is he head of all things in the life of those that belong to Him,
Ephesians 1:22 KJV
“And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,”

Your situation sounds like God worked a miracle in your life. See Galatians 3:5 KJV,
He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

You don’t need to be confused with blessings - miracles are miraculous events that most of us don’t experience. So, with little guidance by ministers and preachers, we start questioning what we experienced. But, the Bible helps us: 1 Corinthians 14:33 KJV, “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.”

Romans 8:15-16 KJV
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

Be careful with questioning obvious blessings. That can lead to operating in the flesh and putting yourself under the law of the flesh. You want to walk according to the law of the Spirit of life where we experience God’s miracles. The Bible tells us in
James 1:17 KJV, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”

Sometime Christians that are operating in the Spirit will be attacked with negative thoughts from the evil one. The Bible tells us in Ephesians 6:12 KJV,
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

Thank God for blessings, and stay aware like we are warned,

1 Peter 5:8 KJV
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

Pray for discernment, calmness of spirit, meekness, and a humble and thankful spirit - stay operating in the Fruit of the Spirit.

God bless!

I'm just guessing and telling you how I would interpret it. If it was felt in your stomach, I wouldn't think that feeling was from the Holy Spirit. I would think that is excitement or anxiety over considering a large purchase.

As far as the words you feel like you heard, if you believed it was God, what did those words mean to you in this situation? What do you think you should have done? What do you think you should do now, after you have already purchased it, if it was the Holy Spirit?

Do you feel like you disobeyed God, or that God was indifferent about which vehicle you should buy? Do you think you might have missed out on a better deal if you had waited?

Do you feel spiritual conviction or a lack of peace in owning it now that you have bought it? If not, then it probably wasn't words from God.

The truck is yours now. You owe your parents that money back. If you feel that you shouldn't keep it, then you could try selling it to pay your parents. You'll be back at square one, no vehicle or money for one. You could try trading it back in to the same dealer, having a vehicle to drive while paying your parents back.

What if it wasn't from God because it is actually a bad truck? It is just a vehicle after all. All vehicles break down and need maintenance. All vehicles can potentially have safety problems. No matter what you buy, it's going to come with problems if not sooner, then later.

I think you need to check to see if there were ever any recalls that were for a safety hazard and if those issues were addressed. If not, then do that ASAP. Keep it well maintained and prepare financially for future repairs, just as you would any truck, car, or van.

I just read another discussion you started about owning vehicles where you said you have OCD. This makes me really believe that what you felt that day was just anxiety over a new purchase.

As one who struggles with anxiety and sometimes has compulsive tendencies, I sometimes have intrusive thoughts that don't come from anyone or anywhere else except my own anxious or depressed mind.

Every time I physically feel something from the Holy Spirit I feel it in my chest, my heart. When I feel something in my abdomen, that is anxiety, grief, or gastrointestinal issues.

It's called an EHP "Emotional Heat Pattern". I've been there before...

It sounds like an intrusive thought. There's no reason I can think of that God wouldn't want you to have reliable transpiration. He may not have directly orchestrated the situation, but I don't see why he would be against it.

Harley… we’ve discussed this before. If it keeps coming back to you through your OCD you should consult your doctor. Prayers for you in the meantime. :praying:
Intrusive thoughts are not really understood to be brought on by outside sources, and I believe because we just don’t understand, they get labeled mental issues. But a large percentage of the time, it’s not related to our minds.

“War on the Saints” by Jessie Penn Lewis, is a good book to read that explains what is happening with intrusives thought or thoughts injected in the mind.

You can buy it on Amazon and here is a free pdf copy: https://www.classicbiblestudyguide.com/English/WarOnTheSaints.pdf

2Ti_2:25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

peradventure = mepote = perhaps

There are things that are not know, random, and left to chance.

If one is of the opinion that God controls every aspect of life, one begins to have to conclude that God is also responsible for some of the evil in the world. By being given free will, there is a degree of randomness in life as well.

Medical science would disagree with you. Decades of research and experience with treatments and therapy disagrees with you.

My own experience disagrees with you.

What evidence are those claims based on?

Christians often forget that the brain is an organ in the body, and just like the rest of the body sometimes it gets sick, injured, is effected by chemicals and hormones, and can have disorders, just like the rest of the body.

I do believe there is demonic activity in the world and some people can be directly targeted. But more often than not, I believe it is mental illness or disorders.

I don't believe that anyone who is a Christian can be possessed by an evil spirit because they are sealed by the Holy Spirit, and the Spirit lives within them. How can a demon be messing with the mind of a person while the Holy Spirit is taking up residence there?

If it were always, or usually, evil spirits then medication, treatment, and physical improvement wouldn't reduce it or relieve it. Managing symptoms, which does work to some extent and sometimes completely, wouldn't be an option because they wouldn't really be symptoms. They would be demonic activity. In that case the "symptoms" would continue.

When someone has been diagnosed with a mental health disorder or illness by a professional, we should all believe them.

Encouraging people with a diagnosis to ignore the diagnosis and seek spiritual answers to a physical, neurological, and chemical problem can prevent them from having the treatment and professional guidance that they need, and God has provided.

I have seen too many mentally ill patients go off their meds or stop therapy because someone told them it was demonic, just to see them spiral out of control and their condition worsen, sometimes leading to physically harming themselves and/or others.

A well know example is Andrea Yates. She needed ongoing mental healthcare. Instead she was pushed to continue on, guided by beliefs her mental illness was demonic, and forced to carry on with a life isolated and alone at home with her children. It ended in a nightmarish tragedy. One that she now views differently, understands that it was her illness that wasn't managed well and a difficult lifestyle. Now that she has consistent mental health care, in prison, her mind is functioning better. But she, her family, and our society, has to live with the memory of what she did when her mental illness wasn't appropriately dealt with and she believed the voices were real, instead of her own mind's hallucinations, intrusive thoughts, and delusional thinking.

Encouraging people with a diagnosis to ignore the diagnosis and seek spiritual answers to a physical, neurological, and chemical problem can prevent them from having the treatment and professional guidance that they need, and God has provided.
So, I never encouraged anyone to come off their meds, nor do I oppose doctors that treat mental illinesses. I had a family member diagnosed with a mental illinesses, and I never failed to take them to their appointments and I advocated for them with their doctors to adjust their meds when needed - I kept a close watch to assure they were ok and the medicine and treatment was working, so I would never tell anyone to stop treatment for a diagnosed mental illinesses.

I do believe God gives Scientists and Doctors medical knowledge to treat and heal the thousand of mental and medical conditions in this world because man no longer possess the powerful faith that Jesus and the Apostles had.

As far as intruding thoughts, just because a Christian has the Holy Spirit does not mean we cannot be attacked by the evil one in our mind. The Bible tells us we must put off the flesh, which is the area of the soul that the evil one uses to deceive us - our thoughts and our emotions. Until a believer has grown to the point of having victory, they will suffer in their flesh - it’s not an automatic defeat. The Bible says God will bruise Satan under our feet shortly.
Romans 16:20 KJV
“And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.”

So it’s not automatic that the war between the flesh and the spirit ends - it’s a growth period in the Spirit, then within a certain time God will do it.

It doesn’t matter what we want to be true or what we deny, there are many scriptures that explains:

Galatians 5:17 KJV
For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

This scripture is speaking of the mind and emotions of believers being influenced by the flesh that is influenced by evil - evil belongs to Satan not God.

Romans 7:21 KJV
I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

So, where is this evil - surely not sitting on your couch next to you influencing you!
This scripture confirms there is good and evil in a believer that creates a struggle.

Romans 7:23 KJV
But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

Warring against the law of the mind that wants to do good, to have good thought, but can’t because the law in the believers members, which are our emotions, our flesh operating, we are defeated. Nothing can help this situation and bring about peace accept Christ, the Spirit of Christ, the Holy Spirit - as we grow.

A believer receiving the Holy Spirit still contends with the flesh until a certain amount of growth has taken place, and that happens through vigorous study of the Bible. That’s the only way, not your opinion!

Studying the gospel provides the spiritual growth to make the separation between soul and spirit,

Hebrews 4:12 KJV
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

So, to understand what the Bible is telling us in relation to our flesh and how our mind and emotions are influenced, if we are yielding to the flesh and not the Spirit, provides a great weapon against the influence of the evil one.

We are told to put on the whole Armor of God, not put on people’s opinions. This is the very reason faith is lacking today.

Ephesians 6:10-11 KJV
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

We are in the time where people don’t want to here sound doctrine, and people rather follow people’s opinions as if they wrote the Bible:

2 Timothy 4:3-4 KJV
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

God is the ultimate healer - but mockers will influence people away from that truth. And when they are told about themselves, they through a hissy fit - run and get people on their side, retaliate, all while never able to produce one sound scripture - these are those that make merchandise of people.

2 Peter 2:2-3 KJV
But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

God bless you! May He open our eyes to His truth!

Some great answers here. it sure can be hard for anyone to distinguish between God's voice that are filtered through their emotions. Perhaps you feel that you do not deserve the truck? Regardless though I think that God is stretching your faith, that the truck is just great enough that you are having a hard time believing in it. Little steps like that do occur, in a sense that is part of God training us to expect more and more, and just when you get the vehicle as far as God wants, he may set you up for some other test of faith in a completely different area. The good news though is that through the whole process you are maturing. I do hope you enjoy the truck. It sounds like a true blessing.
