  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Moore says Trump not inviting Democratic governors to White House is ‘especislly confounding’

The New York Times first reported Friday that Trump was only inviting GOP governors to the meeting and did not invite [Maryland gov Wes] Moore and Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) to a bipartisan dinner for governors and their families.

Moore wrote on the social platform X on Sunday that he was “uninvited” to the National Governors Association (NGA) dinner, which is typically attended by state executives of both parties. Moore was elected by Democratic and Republican governors to serve as vice chair of the NGA last July and will take over as the group’s chair this year, succeeding Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt (R).

The Maryland Democrat added the move is “especially confounding” considering that “just weeks ago,” he was part of a bipartisan group of governors that went to the White House to work with the Trump administration on reforms to lower energy costs.

[Ordinarily the NGA would sponsor the event, but since the vice chair has been uninvited..."

“In this time, the president cannot use this time to divide our organization,” he told host Dana Bash. “Our organization stands firm that, if you exclude one, you exclude us all, and this will not be an NGA event.”

Nothing unusual here. Presidents of both parties have invited meetings with groups of people of their own party plenty of times in the past.
Here's just one example: Obama Invites House Democrats to White House

It wasn't just "a meeting." It was the National Governor's Association dinner of which Moore is the vice chair, a bi-partisan position to which he was elected by both Republican and Democratic governors.

Your Obama example was an expressly partisan strategy meeting regarding the shutdown that was going on at that time. You know that's not nearly the same thing, right?

Internal logic isn’t necessary and can be safely disregarded.

Under a functional government this would be problematic, but no one should think that this is going to be any different than a Cabinet meeting. Trump telling them how much he has done for them, and the State Governors doing a chorus line of praise for Trump with a few solo performances thrown in.

That shouldn't surprise anyone!

On the contrary, it is extremely unusual for the president to disinvite certain governors from the annual scheduled governors conference.
