  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

President Trump posted an overtly racist video clip portraying former President Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama as apes at the end of a video on his Truth Social feed.

Trump's offensive post uses a centuries-old trope against the first Black president and first lady in U.S. history during the first week of Black History Month.

The two-second snippet appears at the end of an election conspiracy video that abruptly cuts to the clip and then cuts back. Trump posted it at 11:44pm ET Thursday.

The clip, a parody of "The Lion King," is from an AI-generated video created by a MAGA meme account.

The original video includes other Democratic lawmakers as well, including former President Biden, former Vice President Harris, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

In this case I have to agree
You might agree but your local congressman and senator probably don’t and so they don’t ever hold him accountable and this behavior becomes normalized. It used to be a president behaving this way should get considerable backlash even from their own party. Nobody pushes back on stuff like this because it appears that for a very large number of you, this is acceptable.

So stuff like this doesn’t really bother me like it did at one point. It’s better to let this just hang there and represent the people who elected this person into power because long after this presidency, we’re still going to remember everything that’s been excused.

I don’t think Trump hates Obama. I think he knows a large number of his supporters do and is just tossing some red meat out to them.

Keep em from looking too much into some of the Epstein stuff that’s come out recently.

Not able to see the clip, so is there anybody else with their head superimposed on an animal's body or is it just the Obama's?
From the snapshot shown, it would appear that Michelle is being depicted as the alpha ^_^
Apes are incredibly powerful creatures.

The video is supposedly taken down. Maybe it existed.

Did see where Axios went way out on this one. Having come from an era when racial stereotypes were still considered funny, I honestly don’t recall much in the way of portraying blacks as apes. Have honestly see the Irish portrayed as apes more often. That’s courtesy of 19th century political cartooning (I’m looking at you, Thomas Nast). Lincoln was called an ape by critics. I won’t delve into the stereotypes I saw of blacks, for obvious reasons.

Kudos to Newsweek for using the word ape instead of monkey. The librarian of the Unseen University would have been most pleased…

Trump only posted part of the original clip. The only heads on animals shown in what he posted were the Obamas on ape bodies.

The entire clip showed other heads, such as Hillary on a warthog and Illinois Gov Pritzker on an elephant. It had Biden as a monkey eating a banana. The intentionally obtuse among us trying to excuse Trump’s post will claim that means it wasn’t racist when he posted the Obama’s on ape bodies. Which of course it was.

I saw the Obamas pictured as apes plenty of times during the Tea Party days. Like I posted here:

There were signs at rallies picturing Obama as an ape, and Michelle as a man. It was incredibly racist.

When I was young, a temp Sunday School teacher actually said that the white man was created by God, but blacks evolved from apes and were lesser. My parents threw a fit about that.
Why do you think White Supremacists refer to blacks as "mud people"? It is all part of the Christian Identify movement which we do not allow on this site as it is so flaming.

Trump is just showing how racist he is with that post, which I saw.

After the press secretary went to bat saying it wasn't so bad didn't seem to mollify enough people they are saying a staffer posted it to the presidents account. I don't see how that's any better as the account is the official mouth piece of the administration at this point and him not being in control of it should be worrying.

“Mud people” is a new one on me, and I happen to know a lot of slurs, including a few in use in other countries.

It's an old one. The KKK used it. The Neo-Nazi's used it. To them, the "mud people" have no souls and are less than human. The attitude for that is why the Supreme Court back when referred to black slaves as 3/5s a person.

Picturing whites as monkeys when they do something foolish does not carry the same stain.

Along with all the former ICE agents who will be claiming they "were only following orders" at their trials.

Odd. The ones I heard were those like the “N” word. Very specific. The exception is the “W” word, which was common in the UK, and applied to everyone past Calais. White supremests in the US never have seemed to shy from the specific ones. When the late white supremest J.B. Stoner ran TV adds, he used the “N” word, not mud people.
