  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

So.....did your insurance premium go up?

Who will get hit hardest by ACA premium increases in four charts

This next statistic is pretty astonishing. Red state participation has grown 150% over the past 5 years and hugely dominates the total ACA marketplace.

Mine went up by a grand total of $8 per paycheck on the medical, dental stayed the same, and vision went up by about $2.

So if you extrapolate that out (we're paid semi-monthly)

My health care costs went up $240/year...nothing earth shattering

'I'm going to die': Grim reality hits as cancer patient's health costs rocket nearly 900%

Johana Scott is one of more than 20 million Americans who turned the calendar page to a health care crisis after her enhanced tax credits expired Jan. 1 for the Affordable Care Act.

The Texas woman, who was diagnosed with Stage 3 endometrial cancer in February, logged into her health insurance account on Dec. 3 and found her usual premium of about $200 a month had jumped to $1,725 for the same plan. She told MS NOW that she's now not sure what she'll do if lawmakers don't extend the enhanced tax credits.

Scott's cancer treatment requires immunotherapy sessions that cost between $20,000 and $45,000 each – more than her annual income – and she'll require weekly treatments for the next two years.

“I’ve been crying since December because I don’t know what to do,” she told MS NOW. “If I don’t have my insurance, I am going to die this year.”

“I know there’s so many other people, and it’s not like I’m this big, important person,” Scott said. “But to my family and my friends, I am important, and I would like to live for, you know, for as long as I can.”

ACA enrollment drops by 1M-plus after subsidies expire

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported Wednesday that 23 million people signed up for open enrollment, which concluded on Jan. 15. It marks a drop-off from the 24.2 million people who enrolled for insurance during the same period in 2025.

Last year marked four consecutive years of record enrollment for ACA Marketplace plans.

The latest numbers reflect the data from the 30 states that use the federal ACA Marketplace. Some states that rely on their own independent exchanges have open enrollment until later this week, which could affect the enrollment numbers.

I'm 66 and my rate went up a whopping 26.00 a month

Where is the devastation spoken of and the millions going without?

I didn't know you were on the ACA. I'm glad you weren't affected as much as others. Mine is basically the same, but my insurance is thorough my employer, not the ACA. Any current impact will be my paying more for services, which I have no way to compare. I won't be majorly impacted until next year when everything is repriced with consideration for the drop on insurance rolls and the spike of uninsured people.

My daughter is not on medicare (as those over 65 are) and her insurance rate when from $318 a month to over $700. She is probably will have to drop it and apply for Medicaid.

I'm not - the only people - it seems - who have experienced large increases are the ones trapped in the Unaffordable Care Act.

I think it was explained at the time that both employers and the govt, via the ACA, pay a portion of the healthcare costs. The govt is either reducing or eliminating the portion they pay. If employers were to do the same, I'd be in the same boat. As it is, costs are eventually going to go up to pay for the uninsured that still get care because the hospitals can't legally turn them away.

Is she one of the ones under that portion of the ACA?

Only 1 million of the 21 million of so were effected it seems.

So far. Some may try to keep it yet will have to stop before long. My daughter was going to try and pay it all.

Tens of thousands of Californians pay more for health insurance this year after subsidy cuts

Krista, a 42-year-old photographer and videographer in Santa Cruz County, relies on costly monthly intravenous treatments for a rare blood disorder. She asked that her full name not be used but shared her insurance and medical documents with The Times.

Last year, she paid about $285 a month for a Covered California plan. In late December, she received a notice showing her premium would rise to more than $1,200 a month. The rise was due to her loss of federal subsidies, as well as a 23% increase in the premium charged by Blue Shield.

[She found a plan at $522]

To cut costs and preserve the ability to save for retirement and eventually afford a place of her own, Krista decided to move into an RV on private land.

Jessica Altman, executive director of Covered California, said that about 160,000 Californians lost their subsidies when the enhanced federal assistance expired because their incomes were higher than 400% of the federal poverty level.

Although overall enrollment in Covered California this year has held steady, Altman said, she worries that more people will drop coverage as bills with the higher premiums arrive in the mail.
