  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I believe and teach everything that is stated above except for recoginizing the Holy Catholic church as the true church. The apostolic church that the Apostles started, along with its teachings of truth as recorded in the NT, is the one true church.

Do you accept the teachings of the Holy Catholic church or is that an exception for you, too?

Joe
"Catholic" in the Nicene Creed has a small c. It just means world-wide, universal. It doesn't refer only the the Roman Catholic denomination.

Does Jesus ?
The catholic (small c) church just means the world-wide, universal church, the church that Jesus said He would build and the gates of hell would not prevail against it. That is the church mentioned in the creeds. The creeds don't say, "I believe in the Roman Catholic Church."

Believe it or not, Jesus only used the word “church” twice. On the first occasion, Jesus speaks prophetically to his disciple Peter in Matthew 16:18.

Yes, I agree. Not sure how it answers my post though.

Dear Apple Sky,
Jesus is the Word of God. It is up to mankind and even the Catholic church to agree with Him - not the other way around.
Joe

That's what I'm saying, if Jesus believes it then so do I.

Dear GoldenKingGaze,
You are reading into it words it does not say. I would discuss it more but it is not allowed on this forum.

The authors of the Creed are Trinitarian. The term came to be published or hand written in a letter in the second century, then "Triad".

Man's creed.
Somewhat but not 100%.
That's similar, though on a larger scale, to a church's doctrinal checkpoints for members, and their "Statement of Faith."

I see all that as compliance to a written interpretation in order to gain acceptance in a flock, at the loss of one's personal insights and wisdom.

Most teachings within churches have to be filtered through lenses of their denominations, doctrines, and dogmas.

I suppose that's why forums such as this are riddled with fruitless debates about doctrinal differences, and lacks the very practices and standards that we all say we believe, (when we're not arguing with others).

These cannot be about the rapture? It is bad to be taken, right?
"Taken" by God's wrath,

"Left" alive and unharmed after God's wrath.

Psalm 91 is about how to experience God's wrath, unharmed and unafraid.

(vv 5-8 shows this to be speaking of God's wrath)

If you read the passage that precedes the one you quoted from Luke 17, which is Luke 17:26-30, you should see that Jesus compares the day of His second coming to the day Noah went onto the ark after which the ones left outside the ark were all killed.
Yes, they were killed and Noah and his family were left on the earth.

Yes, they were killed and Noah and his family were left on the earth.
I see it as Noah and his family were taken to safety by being on the ark and those left behind outside of the ark were all killed. Similarly, when Jesus comes again, we (the church) will all be taken up to meet Him in the air and those left behind and not taken up will all be killed. Either way you look at it, the text indicates that all unbelievers will be killed when Jesus returns just as all unbelievers were killed by the flood in Noah's day.
