  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Are there still money changers in the church today?

Jesus Cleanses the Temple

Matthew 21: 12-13 Then Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who were selling and buying in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. He said to them, “It is written,

‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’
but you are making it a den of robbers.”

Jesus Cleanses the Temple

Mark 11:15-18 Then they came to Jerusalem. And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who were selling and those who were buying in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves, and he would not allow anyone to carry anything through the temple. He was teaching and saying, “Is it not written,

‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations’?
But you have made it a den of robbers.”

And when the chief priests and the scribes heard it, they kept looking for a way to kill him, for they were afraid of him because the whole crowd was spellbound by his teaching.

What do you think, are there still money changers today and should they be 'driven out'? God Bless All :)

Maybe a modern day example might be to be wary of those who bring financial giving or selling of products into healing or gospel presentations. Perhaps they should not be given a platform in church. God Bless All.

I would argue that those Christians who ask me endless questions about my job fall into this category.

So how is your job? You got a job yet? How soon are you going to start tithing and contributing to the church coffers? We need more money, you got some? You doing okay?

NO! Just lay off, I’m still broke, you robbers!

They are anyone who turn the church into something it is not. Examples: you don't go to get married, push the philosophies of the world, or use it as a stepping stone to advance your career. Those are a few other examples. You go to worship God, learn about him, & grow in holiness

I have a job.

Technically it could be argued at this point I have 2 jobs and three ministries going, and they keep asking me. If you’re looking for laziness, go find someone else.

Oh, how horrible you would experience that. And alas that problem can occur across a broad spectrum of denominations.

The closest thing I can think of is the time period when the Roman Catholic Church was selling indulgences.

The instance in Matt and Mark (same one) - is the anger that Jesus had with people selling things to bring into the priest as an offering. Either a guilt offering or many of the others. The Synagogue (not church), was turned into a money making platform that people could purchase the appropriate 'sacrifice' or pay their money's in the correct currency.

The closest thing I can think of is the time period when the Roman Catholic Church was selling indulgences.
Some Roman Catholic priests were definitely selling indulgences, which was forbidden to do by the Magisterium of the Church.

I am a Catholic, and I think there are, unfortunately, many bishops in the USA and around the world today who are like money-changers. Their recent money-changing scheme was to apply for and receive USA government grant funds for their own NGOs in order to aid and abet their unscriptural position on illegal immigration. There were many other leaders of other churches who were doing this same thing.

Why do I think their current position on illegal immigration is unscriptural?

These bishops are pushing the members of their dioceses to accept unlimited illegal immigration. They expect us to provide for them with our tax dollars, regardless of what it costs us, even if we are already in debt for $39 trillion dollars. This is not the teaching of the traditional, historical Magisterium of the Church.

What these bishops should be teaching is the following:

1. Every country has the responsibility to protect their own citizens by limiting and vetting who is allowed to enter. Every country has the responsibility to protect and defend its borders.

2. Countries must not harm the culture of their countries by admitting people who do not share the traditions and religious values of their own citizens.

3. No country should admit unlimited numbers of illegal aliens. It will cause disastrous consequences. The illegal aliens will birth many children, and when they become the majority, they will impose their cultures and religions upon you, even by violence if you do not submit to their laws.

4. Tell illegal aliens to return to their own country, humble themselves, pray, seek God's will, and repent of their sins. Then God will listen to them, have mercy on them and their country, forgive their sins, and heal their country so that it will be a good place for them to live.

2 Chronicles 7:14
if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

The church leaders also need to teach the following:

If you are a legal immigrant, you must pay for what you need and do not expect others to support you.

2 Thessalonians 3:8
and we did not eat anyone’s bread without paying for it; but with toil and labor we worked night and day, so that we might not burden any of you.

2 Thessalonians 3:10
For even when we were with you, we gave you this command: Anyone unwilling to work should not eat.
