  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Here's my belief:

After I was saved, I used to believe that Christmas was about Jesus. As I grew in my faith, it became more obvious that it was not about Jesus, but about secular things.

I have observed that Christians that are in the Gen X or Millennial generation recognize that Christmas is not about Jesus and would like to stop the whole Santa Clause and presents things. But the older generations like the Boomers think it's okay to have both worship towards Jesus and incorporate things like Santa Clause and the presents.

I celebrate Christmas as Jesus birth on Earth. We setup the traditional tree each year and exchange gifts with family. I don't think there is anything terribly wrong with that.

If I were a parent though I wouldn't lie and tell my children there is a Santa. That is kind of mean in my opinion.

I’m late to the game here, but when I think about Christmas, the first verse of the hymn O Holy Night is what I think about. The melody is great, but the words are what makes it my favorite Christmas song.

O Holy night! The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of the dear Savior's birth
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
'Til He appeared, and the soul felt its worth
A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn’

Fall on your knees
O hear the angel voices
O night divine
O night when Christ was born
O night divine
O night, O night divine

The only thing I ever liked/miss about xmas these days are the parties when I used to work in an office.

Family reunions can be fun too. Honestly, I really don't care about which days they fall on. We can have parties or family reunions on June and it would feel the same.

For me, xmas is simply just the winter solstice. I'm not pagan but xmas came from the winter solstice and I simply want to see it for what it is. Truth is more valuable to me than belief. Truth only has to be known. Belief is the assumption that the unknown could be truth (but then it can also be a lie).

Christmas has always been about celebrating the birth of Christ for me, so I can't really speak on behalf of a whole generation across the Earth, about what it might mean for them.

Christmas has been hijacked by the secular world but it is always the case, since time began, that the world tries to corrupt anything that involves God.

I guess I am not that materialistic, because I always thought Christmas was about family...
In my country it is officially known as "Family Day", to avoid having holidays with religious names.
(But it's like when Elon Musk changed Twitter name to X, everyone still calls it Christmas).

I did thoroughly enjoy company Christmas parties several times. The military typically spent a lot of money on them. But I've worked for a couple of businesses that would rent out a nice spot and host a fairly posh party too.
