No, no, no, look. Clerical undergarments (or pyjamas, another thing I've seen suggested) is just taking this whole thing too far.

Nobody who sees our undergarments needs to be reminded of our clerical identity in that moment!

I am trying to imagine a funeral in weather that cold. Snow is kind of peaceful.

And now it's 12-16 inches but in the evening, well after the funeral should be done. If that happens my Presbyterian church will probably cancel Sunday though. I've written what I think is a very good sermon too!

Do they do a weekly email or the like? You can always send them the text to read, and tell them there'll be a quiz on it later.

I learned today that I am getting old because my knee was hurting in that 4 degree weather. I think they had half of the firefighters in the County out there and I asked one: what are y'all going to do if a call comes in? She said, there's a skeleton crew back at the station. The man had been the fire chief in his younger days. I tried to get them to let my kids ride in the fire truck but they wouldn't go for it.

I made a small mistake. They had requested the US Navy hymn (yes he had been a sailor too) and I found a version sung by the US Naval Academy choir but it was only the first verse!

I've had the tricky diplomatic challenge yesterday of how to respond to the parishioner who sent me a link to a half-hour Youtube video on "how women ruined everything." Apparently the solution is "getting rid of women from the institutions," right down to removing our right to vote.

Sigh.

I had a somewhat related challenge last year when a parishioner wanted to prove to me that systemic racism was just a myth created by the liberals to keep white people down. But that didn't attack my personhood so you definitely win! LOL.

Oh, it's a him. (How did you guess?)

My reply boiled down to three points I'd summarise as, the arguments supplied are rubbish; I have no intention of being baited into defending my vocation; by the way, sending this stuff to women clergy (he sent it to a bunch of us) amounts to a form of harassment in the workplace, you might want to think about the implications of how you shape your communications.

I haven't had a reply.

Oh yes. Since I serve several I was getting cancellation notices all weekend. I looked out after the sun came up and the road was not there. And I live on a significant state highway! By 10 the plows had passed through multiple times, the road was still not there, and the ditchlines were filled with the moved snow which makes it's own issues, especially in low light driving.

I went to Church yesterday. My governor called for a state emergency due to the temperatures. I'm in Nebraska. A lot of public schools have called for due to the cold.

I am so lucky, 6 degrees celcius. I am praying for the roasting hot and the freezing cold from here. I wish water and shade and warm clothes and safety, whichever you all need for whatever you are in.
