  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Having someone rebuke you can feel lik a slap in the face, but it should not be done to embarrass, but more an attempt to
prevent him from sinning.

Compare with what King David says in Psalms 141:5

Her first quote was not about breaking any law but, going beyond the law.

Her second quote was about rebuke, if a righteous strikes (rebukes) you on the cheek, then turn the other to recieve more.

Worrying about the law leads to legalism, how far can I go and still be within the law.
The first passage does not give license to harbor criminals. That is a crime. The second is about religious persecution. Not being a [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse].

Ezekiel 18:5, and the chapter out.
If I haven’t eaten on the mountain, worshiped idols, committed adultery, or approached a woman on her menstrual cycle then I can slap you?

It is in present tense, what one has done before is done but the whole idea is that we reform ourselves.

Take your time, read and recite out loud.

Respectfully, your scripture references are taken out of context and are not applicable to the situation. Nor did it answer the poster's question.
"Where does jesus tell us to allow people to break the law and steal from us?"
Jesus is usually capitalized. My understanding is that stealing is breaking the law. I gave the passages where Jesus said to not only allow the cloak thief to steal but throw in a shirt to boot. Imo, the given passages answer that question directly, plain reading.

Yes most probably, but but consider something from Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn, of righteous memory.

"Do good without reason, then there are no traps. you don`t need your ego`s approval to do something good."

You cited Matthew 5:40: "If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also."

This doesn't look like stealing to me, but making a claim whithin legality to take someone else's tunic. It looks like that at that time there were people with such a status, that they could legally make such claims toward the people of a lower class.

The next verse: "And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two", concerns, as I have heard, a privilege of a Roman soldier to force anyone in an occupied land to carry his burden for a distance of a mile. This was as well within legality.

We have also to see that Jesus is setting a high standard that very few of us can claim to follow. I believe that the goal of Jesus was that we measure ourself with His standard, and see our sense of self-justice crushed, but not that we use this standard to judge other people that are in difficult situations where we are not ourself, such as the pastor of the church in question.

  • Please treat all members with respect and courtesy through civil dialogue.
  • Do not personally attack (insult, belittle, mock, ridicule) other members or groups of members on CF, or use nicknames to do so. A list of unacceptable names can be found here.. Address only the content of the post and not the poster.
  • NO Goading. This includes images, cartoons, smileys or post ratings which are clearly meant to goad. Quoting and then editing another members post to change the original meaning, commonly referred to as "fixed it for you" (FIFY), is considered goading.
  • "Calling out" a member is an unsolicited comment about another member in reference to something they may have said, their personal beliefs, their signature, or their avatar (challenging the member in a negative manner). This applies to any thread, whether the called out member is participating in that thread or not. Do not quote, or make comments about another member, in your signature or user title.
  • Offensive derogatory nicknames and egregious inflammatory comments about public figures may be considered goading.
  • Stating or implying that another Christian member, or group of members, are not Christian is not allowed.
  • If you are flamed, do not respond in-kind. Alert staff to the situation by utilizing the report button.
