  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Women don't have the same rights as men do in Iran, because the government is Islamist, and their "supreme leader" is an authoritarian. That's what I'm talking about.

...How is this not crystal clear in everyone's understanding already?
It still is not clear how China is hurt by this.

China and Iran are strategically aligned in opposing "U.S. dominance", and have security partnerships where joint military exercises are performed together. IIran is also a member of China's SCO.

...you see, Authoritarians, Islamists, and Communists stick together, because they hate free-thinking Westerners equally. They're almost like "friends" if you want to think of it that way. Their goal is to make us more restrained like them, and our goal is to make them more free... Like us.

But, if Iran were to be liberated, the goal of spreading a more restrained style of living becomes diminished, which is a threat to Chinese values and goals, or, Eastern values and goals in the bigger picture.

I'm not convinced of that. At most I see common interest, not common values.

This is almost making sense, but then you meantion "eastern values" as if they are coherent.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is a Eurasian political, economic, and security alliance formed by China, Russia, and Central Asian states, evolving from the "Shanghai Five" to tackle regional security (terrorism, separatism) and expand political/economic ties, serving as a platform for non-Western multilateralism and challenging Western dominance, with members like India, Pakistan, and Iran joining

Main Goals: Promote regional peace, stability, and prosperity through cooperation in politics, economy, culture, and security

Actively promoting anti-westernism can be perceived as a common value for those who seek such a thing.

This is from their perspective. They aspire to This separation, and so thus, it exists.

Given that you're rubbing your hands waiting for the bombs to fall on Iran, how will these bombs affect anti-'Western' feeling in the world?

To be clear, my interests are less in line with persuading the populations into adopting Western freedoms, than it is hurting bad governments.

...I think the people (if they're not infected by radical Islamism) will naturally take to freedom. It's the bad governments who need to suffer harsh realities for their crimes against humanity.

...I believe in actually *hurting* those governments, as the right, and proper thing to do.

It depends on who you ask, I suppose. The Iranian-Amerocans will celebrate on the streets, as well as those in Iran who are protesting, and asking for our help.

...The radicals will hate us maybe a little more than they already do, but why should that matter?

Mmm. OK. Never heard of them before. Those countries don't seem all that aligned with each other.

And we have to wonder about this nebulous notion "westernism" that no one can properly explain to me.

It's unfortunate that you want to play the intentionally obtuse card, especially when I know that you're educated on history. You know as well as I do that on an intellectual level, democracy, our judiciary/ law systems, the arts, the way we debate - they're all derived from ancient Greece, which influenced Rome, which influenced Europe, which influenced the America's, South Africa, and Australia, and even influenced Christianity, as many of the first Christians spoke both Hebrew and koine Greek..

...You can pretend like these things don't actually exist, just the same way as you view Christianity if that's the route you choose to take, but I know that you know what Westernism is, even if you pretend not to.

It wouldn't surprise me that people who aspire to postmodernism would also suggest that Westernism doesn't exist, the same way culture doesn't exist. These would be the same people who reject the Jewish state of Israel, in support of authoritarian Islamic terrorist regimes like what the modern Iranian government represents.

You guys can cut the umbilical cord to your roots and your community, but don't expect me to.

‘He hoped Trump’s help would arrive’: why protesters in Iran feel betrayed

When Donald Trump, said he would “rescue” protesters if Iranian authorities started shooting, Siavash Shirzad believed the US president.

The 38-year-old father had seen protests rise up before, only to be brutally crushed by authorities.

But this was the first time in his life that the president of the United States had promised to help demonstrators. Reassured, Shirzad took to the streets, ignoring his family’s warnings and joining the growing crowds.

Authorities started shooting, but no help came. On 8 January, the internet was shut off and Iran went dark, Shirzad was shot at a protest in Tehran and died of his wounds hours later, leaving behind a 12-year-old son.

“Siavash hoped until the very end that Trump’s help would arrive,” his cousin said, speaking anonymously for fear of repercussions. “We told him: ‘Don’t go, it’s dangerous.’ But he gave a firm answer: ‘Trump said he supports us, I’m going.’”

On Tuesday, Trump urged Iranians to keep protesting and to “take over your institutions”, telling them “help is on its way”, as reports grew that a strike on Iran was imminent. But just a day later, Trump abruptly did an about-face, telling reporters that he had received assurances that Iranian authorities would not execute anyone, walking back from military intervention in Iran, at least temporarily.

In Iran, protesters despaired. Despite Trump’s reassurances, killings of demonstrators continued.

Bloody crackdown appears to have quelled Iran protests for now

More than 3,919 people have been killed in the Iranian protests, activists say.

The internet blackout in Iran continues to make it very difficult to get a clear picture from the ground, but accounts are emerging from people now able to use phone lines, those few with access to working Starlink satellite terminals and Iranians who have recently left the country.

These people describe an eerie calm over Iran's cities, where heavily armed security forces are deployed on the streets enforcing what many are describing as a de-facto curfew.

Other Iranian authorities have said before that two-thirds of those dead are "martyrs" killed by protesters that they describe as "terrorists" and "mercenary agents of Israel and the U.S."

These domestic terrorists are being paid to protest, so what can Iran do but send heavily armed security forces in to quell the riots?

That's why we can expect the Kurds to support us the next time we need to use them.
The Kurds have so much to give! Much more than these ineffective Iranian partisans.

As much as I would have loved to crush the Iranian government, I don't know what the most wise decision would be... It seems like any Muslim majority country might be a lost cause from the get go.

...But I've never been to Iran, so I don't know how badly indoctrinated they are as a whole.

Violence. It just works.
