In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

New Christians may not tap into everything that is available to them to help them experience the transformation:

I do not know of any Christian group, who believe the water itself saves you, since all believe it is God who saves and God is not limited by water.

Water baptism is not a “requirement” for salvation, since God does the saving, but is something Christians get to do to help them and others.

I know that I needed everything God could provide to assure me of my conversion, both outwardly and mentally. God wants you to physically feel the experience of what is going on Spiritually.

You would like to add to your conversion a definite time place and physical experience, which God has provided for you.

Adult believers water immersion is to be a physical outward representation of what had or is happening spiritually in the person being baptized. It is mainly to help the individual being baptized to better grasp what is going on, but it can “witness” to others observing the baptism. It has the elements of going down under the water (burying the old man), placing your dependence in another; the person baptizing you (surrendering your life to God), being washed (having your sins washed away), rising out of the water (rising from the old dead body), and stepping forth out onto the earth (a new person). The person is walking out into the hugs of his new family. It is also a sign of your humility, since it is a humbling act anyone can simple allow someone to do to them (so not a work) and since humility has been shown in the accept of charity (God’s free gift of undeserving forgiveness) it should just support and add to the memory of that acceptance. To refuse Christian water baptism when it is readily available might mean you are not ready to handle other responsibility like having the indwelling Holy Spirit and you are hurting yourself.

Christian Baptism replaced John’s Baptism and not circumcision, since circumcision went on at the same time as John’s baptism and it is not in the Bible where, Jewish Christians cease circumcising their boy children after baptism became available. Circumcision was a physical visible daily reminder to all Jewish boys and men that they were a Jew. The indwelling Holy Spirit is our literal daily reminder that we are Christians. The indwelling Holy Spirit replaced circumcision and is for both men and women.
Peter, Paul and all the rest would have agreed that: “water” does not save you, only Deity (God/Christ/Holy Spirit). God does not need you to “do” anything for Him to save you, but as Christians, we have the wonderful privilege and honor to add to our Spiritual salvation, a physical remembrance by physically going through a death burial and resurrection: washing away, reliance on others, rising to a new life in the arms of fellow Christians and witnessing to other what Christ went through in remembrance. Baptism is for us, because it helps us, and some of us will need that additional help, so God wants all of us to add this physical remembrance and witness.

Look at the context of 1 Cor: 16-17, 1 Cor. 1: 10 I appeal to you, brothers and sisters,[a] in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. 11 My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. 12 What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas”; still another, “I follow Christ.”

13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 so no one can say that you were baptized in my name. 16 (Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don’t remember if I baptized anyone else.) 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

Yet tell me this: If Paul did not believe in water baptism, why did he specific give exceptions as being exceptions to his baptizing of Crispus, Gaius and the household of Stephanas?

Paul is addressing one of the many issues the Corinthian Church was having, which was division among them partly created by them being baptized by different Church leaders or disciples of those church leaders. Paul personally limited baptizing people for the same reason Christ did not baptize anyone.

Paul is not bring judgement down on being baptized, but their division and using who baptized them in dividing up.

Why would baptism not be a benefit to you?

Are you saying there were no Christians baptized with water?
No,not at all.

I’m saying what scripture says that Johns water baptism was to end and it was part of the old testament shadows and “diverse washings” and carnal ordinances that could never purify or be part of the good conscience as we read ,

And that water baptism was not needed to continue ,but the Jewish believers were still struggling with the law and customs and animal sacrifices for many years after as scripture shows, (Acts 15 and Acts 21,etc) We consented using it all through Acts but we also see them sacrificing and going to the temple and keeping the law and customs call through Acts.

And the diverse washings (check the baptism Greek word there) were only imposed until the time of reformation. We see water baptisms, circumcision, keeping the law of Moses and animal sacrifices the temple all still being done in Acts .but when the Gentiles came into the outward visible church were Peter saw them believe and speak with tongues being filled with the Spirit without water baptism, so he had them baptised, then in the next chapter Acts 11 he rehearses the event and he then at that time remembered Jesus words in Acts 1:5 that John baptized with water but ye shall be baptized with the Holy ghost. So it seems that Peter was still practicing John’s water baptism (and or the Halakah law of the Jewish custom that water baptized Gebtike converts). Remember the Jewish believers were still struggling to come out of the old covenant age the law of Moses and sacrifices etc.

Consider the saving baptism in 1 Peter 3:21 is not water baptism but a baptism into Christ by the Spirit as we believe in his resurrection and raised up with him, having a full assurance of hope now and a clean conscience. Then conscience can only be clean by the blood of Christ not outward washings .

Consider these scriptures.

Hebrews 9: 9. Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience; 10. Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation. 14. How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”

With

1 Peter 3: 21. The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:”
So the saving baptism is not an outward washings with water but affects us inwardly

This is the saving batism

Galatians 3: 27. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.”

Notice it’s baptism into Christ, not into water.

And this is by the Spirt, which all believers have .Remember Jesus said that he would baptize us with the Holy Ghost. But the Spirit baptised us first into Christ into the body of Christ.

1 Corinthians 12: 13. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.”

And the baptism into Christ was the reality.water baptism and that of Johns water baptism was old covenant which the early Jewish believers still practiced as they did all the law for a long time. Johns water baptism was close to them at that time. And the baptism into a Jesus and Johns water baptism are not both to be the same in water.

Paul said Christ sent him not to baptize but to preach the gospel

Thank you for your explanation.

I think your missing the reason and value to water baptism:

There also appears to be many portions of the Spirit being given, but do not assume a particular Greek preposition will tell you if it is “on” or “in” since prepositions can take on either meaning most of the time, means change for prepositions and we do not know how these particular ones were used at the time in and around Jerusalem. The context is what we have got to look at.

A baptism of the Holy Spirit seems to be a very unique event, since Peter when he sees it happen to Cornelius and his household must go back years past to Pentecost, so it was not a daily occurrence.

Acts 10: 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.

Acts 11: 15 “As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning. 16 Then I remembered what the Lord had said: ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ 17 So if God gave them the same gift he gave us who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to think that I could stand in God’s way?”

Peter in his explanation to the Jerusalem Jews had to go back years to the beginning to get a similar “Holy Spirit” baptism, which would mean it was unique.

We know followers before Pentecost had a portion of the Spirit John 20:22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit

But Christ said specifically: John 7:39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.

After Pentecost there is the indwelling portion of the Holy Spirit.

Christian water baptism as seen in scripture seems to fit the “born again” scenario Christ was talking about since it: Is always adult (there are examples that “might include infants” but nothing definite, all the others are adult believers) water immersion to be a physical outward representation of what had or is happening spiritually in the person being baptized. It is also a sign of your humility, since it is a humbling act anyone can simple allow someone to do it to them (so not a work) and since humility has been shown in the accept of charity (God’s free gift of undeserving forgiveness) it should just support and add to the memory of that acceptance. To refuse Christian water baptism when it is readily available might mean you are not ready to handle other responsibility like having the indwelling Holy Spirit and you are hurting yourself.

Why not be baptized again (there is no rule against this) to experience all you can from being baptized?

Yes, Ro. 10 is silent about baptism, but silence is not a proof for anything, and baptism was not the topic being discussed, the Jews had to believe first, so baptism would be down the road.

Is the real problem with humility, since adult water baptism is a humbling act?

Is the problem with “witnessing” since baptism help other Christians remember what they went through?

The whole “argument” about the “one” baptism having to be “spiritual baptism” so we do not need to (or even shouldn’t) be water immersed is not supported by scriptural examples, since everyone that was “baptized” by the Holy Spirit seems to have also been water baptized, also.

In an effort to emphasis God’s unconditional (salvation), water baptism of believers has been avoided as a subject. People have “argued” that water baptism is a work and since “works” are not required for salvation, water baptism must be avoided. Most “Christian” religious groups “allow” immersion of believers if they want it.

The problem with this reasoning is adult believer immersion is not something you “do” (work), but is something you allow to be done to you. It is not something “done” as some requirement, but is something you get to do for your sake (to help you) and the sake of others.

As for the scriptures you bring up:

Yes, the Jews (including Paul around Jews) throughout Acts are still practicing the Jewish traditions and Acts is before 70AD (destruction of the temple).

John’s baptism was for repentance, which carries the idea of faith in God’s forgiveness and turning toward pleasing God out of gratitude for forgiveness toward doing works of repentance (helping others).

John’s baptism being prior to Christian baptism could not be a physical demonstration of Christ’s being dead, buried and rising from the grave example. This new life in fellowship with other Christians and the indwelling Holy Spirit could not be part of John’s baptism.

Also the Jews had lot of different ceremonial washings, but they also had voiles and commitments which included water immersions.

1 Peter 3: 20 to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, 21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who has gone into heaven and is at God’s right hand—with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him.

1 Peter 3 is not putting down water baptism, water is symbolic of the Christians’ salvation also as it was for Noah. Water Christian Baptism is not being done to cleanse the dirt from your body, but symbolic of the pledge (commitment or oath) you’re making to God.

Heb. 9: 8 The Holy Spirit was showing by this that the way into the Most Holy Place had not yet been disclosed as long as the first tabernacle was still functioning. 9 This is an illustration for the present time, indicating that the gifts and sacrifices being offered were not able to clear the conscience of the worshiper. 10 They are only a matter of food and drink and various ceremonial washings—external regulations applying until the time of the new order.

Heb. 9 is showing how the ceremonial traditional acts of the Jews did nothing but were symbolic of what was to come. Christian water baptism does nothing tangible but is symbolic of what is going on Spiritually and thus helps the new Christian experience what is happening. Christian water baptism is extremely different from Jewish ceremonial washings and John’s baptism for repentance (commitment).

Gal. 3: 24 So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. 25 Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.

26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

We were “baptized into Christ…” and thus “clothed yourselves with Christ”, but Christ was also baptized in water. Just like gentile female proselytes were water baptized (immersed) into a covenant Judaism relationship, to become Children of God we to were baptized into belonging to Christ.

This also works for:

Galatians 3: 27. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.”

1 Corinthians 12: 13. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.”

The water is not significant, but it is there.

You say: “Paul said Christ sent him not to baptize but to preach the gospel” which comes from:

1 Cor.

Christ avoided baptizing any individual, so no individual could not take pride in being baptized by Christ, but Jesus’ disciples baptized lots of people with John’s baptism at the time. Paul is saying he was glad he had not personally baptized more people for what I would say is the same reason Christ did not baptize any and from the context we can see why, so why did Paul baptize some and with what baptism did Paul baptize people?

Thank you for your explanation.
Your welcome
I think your missing the reason and value to water baptism:
No,I don’t believe so,I clearly am showing that water baptism is not needed for the New covenant.i show that it was practiced by the Jewish believers for a time as was the mosaic law, animal sacrifices, circumcision, keeping the customs of the Jews ,the temple etc.but just because we see Jewish believers in a time of transition or reformation in Acts she still struggling to let go of the Old covenant and types and shadows, dies not mean this was intended for the church.
New Christians may not tap into everything that is available to them to help them experience the transformation:
If the have Christ in them being baptized (immersed ) into Christ they have all things that pertain to life and godliness and if they walk in him they have an unction from the Holy one and know all things.
I do not know of any Christian group, who believe the water itself saves you, since all believe it is God who saves and God is not limited by water.
There are many groups that believe in baptismal regeneration and that if you are not water baptized you will not be saved. The Lutherins and Catholics, and Church of Christ,United Pentecostals etc etc etc etc just to mention a few.
Water baptism is not a “requirement” for salvation, since God does the saving, but is something Christians get to do to help them and others.
Many believe unless a person is water baptised they will not be saved.

It is not a requirement for salvation, that I agree with. But many who believe it’s not a requirement still press it soo strongly. They will say,”oh,you don’t have to be water baptised to be saved” but you they still believe must do it or they would doubt your salvation.
I know that I needed everything God could provide to assure me of my conversion, both outwardly and mentally.
Your conversion is not “outwardly” done.the salvation is inward by the seed, the word of God. Then as believers are baptised (immersed) into Christ and he in us we have Christ formed in us and are born again.this new inner man is the life and this happens not with observation.like the wind you don’t see when it comes or goes.
God wants you to physically feel the experience of what is going on Spiritually.
The flesh prophet lets nothing the words that Jesus spoke they were spirit and life Johnn 6:63

If a person is in the saving baptism into Christ and has put on Christ. The reflection of that life will be manifest in is physical life as he walks in the spirit .others will see the fruit of the life in live, peace, joy, righteousness etc.
You would like to add to your conversion a definite time place and physical experience, which God has provided for you.
With the heart man believes unto righteousness and like the never don’t see where it comes abd goes

And what we should use to make our point is from scripture
Adult believers water immersion is to be a physical outward representation of what had or is happening spiritually in the person being baptized. It is mainly to help the individual being baptized to better grasp what is going on, but it can “witness” to others observing the baptism.
Paul says not eith the wisdom of words. There are many things men will say to justify water baptism. But let’s stick with scripture here. We cannot make up things and suspected and shadows of the OT to be for the new
It has the elements of going down under the water (burying the old man), placing your dependence in another; the person baptizing you (surrendering your life to God), being washed (having your sins washed away),
Without the shedding of blood there is no remission and we have been washed in the blood of Christ for our sins.He washed us from our sins in his own blood.
rising out of the water (rising from the old dead body),

We are risen inter spirit with Christ seated in heavenly places. The duvets washings of the OT were imposed until the time of reformation. Now we are to worship God in spirit and truth.

There are no scriptures showing that water baptism was commanded by zGod for the New Testament believers. Yes, I am familiar with the verses you will bring.Lets look at them.
and stepping forth out onto the earth (a new person).
These are the wisdom of words not scripture.
To refuse Christian water baptism when it is readily available might mean you are not ready to handle other responsibility like having the indwelling Holy Spirit and you are hurting yourself.
No,no scripture says this. Many things come from man’s traditions and misunderstanding of the covenants and spiritual immersion into Christ
Christian Baptism replaced John’s Baptism
No,it didn’t… there is no scripture to show this. If being water baptised in water for remission of sins was Johns baptism and being water baptised in water was Christian baptism, then they are the exact same in manner and type. But that vid not scripture. The Jewish believers were very attached to the law and old covenant still and Johns water baptism was close. They continued in these things for a while.
and not circumcision, since circumcision went on at the same time as John’s baptism and it is not in the Bible where, Jewish Christians cease circumcising their boy children after baptism became available. Circumcision was a physical visible daily reminder to all Jewish boys and men that they were a Jew. The indwelling Holy Spirit is our literal daily reminder that we are Christians. The indwelling Holy Spirit replaced circumcision and is for both men and women.
We are circumcised now inwardly without hands and Paul connects that inward circumcision without hands to the inward baptism ,not of water

Colossians 2: 11. In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: 12. Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.”

Some wrongly today make the type of circumcision in the OT which was a figure of the inward the exact same digester baptism. But this is not different at all if the are both physical signs of inward true reality in the spirit.
Not sure what you mean by this.
A baptism of the Holy Spirit seems to be a very unique event, since Peter when he sees it happen to Cornelius and his household must go back years past to Pentecost, so it was not a daily occurrence.
All believers today can have the baptism WITH tjevHolybGhost, and the gifts never ceased.

But Jesus said he would baptize with the Holy Ghost. The Spirit baptised or immerses us into the body of Christ.
Acts 10: 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.
The Gentiles saw miraculous and were amazed for different reasons. They also were being brought into the outward church so this is amazing also.

Notice that Peter remembered Jesus saying John baptized with water but… so it appears that Peter was practicing Johns water baptism still
We know followers before Pentecost had a portion of the Spirit John 20:22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit

But Christ said specifically: John 7:39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.
They had Christ in them and the Father before Pentecost but the Holy Ghost came after Jesus death to devoured upon all flesh .but this is another long talk.
After Pentecost there is the indwelling portion of the Holy Spirit.
Yes,but they still had the Soirit of the father speaking in them Matthew 10 and Jesus was in them before Pentecost John 25
Christian water baptism as seen in scripture seems to fit the “born again” scenario Christ was talking about since it:
Although John 3 has nothing to do with water baptism. The spiritual birth by the word of God is inward
Is always adult (there are examples that “might include infants” but nothing definite, all the others are adult believers) water immersion to be a physical outward representation of what had or is happening spiritually in the person being baptized.
We see the Jewish believers for a time of transition in Acts still under the law following Johns water baptism and sacrifices etc

John the Baptist was part of the Old Testament and his water baptism was a type and shadow of Joshua and the albeit the people of God going through the Jordan river.
It is mainly to help the individual being baptized to better grasp what is going on, but it can “witness” to others observing the baptism.
There is no scripture for the new testament believers doing it for this cause Paul said Christ sent me not to baptize. He didn’t say he sent me “primarily” not to do it
It has the elements of going down under the water (burying the old man), placing your dependence in another; the person baptizing you (surrendering your life to God), being washed (having your sins washed away),
We don’t place our dependence on another for salvation. If water baptism was for salvation (which it is not) then all would have to depend on another to baptize them in water. Also,in the Jordan crossing of the OT God would manifest himself.John baptized also to manifest Jesus to Israel and for those who cave (except Jesus) for the remission of sins.Burger know that it was figurative because blood had to be shed for the remission of dins.

rising out of the water (rising from the old dead body), and stepping forth out onto the earth (a new person).
1Petrr 3:21 speaks of the one saving baptism (which is not a putting away of the filth of the flesh,or,not a outward washing with water) but it is the answer of a good conscience by the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus was raised from the dead for our justification. Believers are also risen with him in spirit.
The person is walking out into the hugs of his new family. It is also a sign of your humility,
The man beating his chest in repentance and looking to God for forgiveness and seeking Gods righteousness went home justified.and it did not depend on outward works or water baptism or having another dona work on them in water baptizing them.
since it is a humbling act anyone can simple allow someone to do it to them (so not a work)
No,we don’t need another to do the work of water baptizing us in the New Covenant. For by one spirit are we all baptized into one body. All have this and it it by the Dpirit.

If in Ephesians we read that there is one baptism… that baptism must be the one saving baptism spoken of by 1peter 3:21 and that one saving baptism must be where we put on Christ and that must be the spiritual baptism by theorist into one body, into the body of Christ.
since humility has been shown in the accept of charity (God’s free gift of undeserving forgiveness) it should just support and add to the memory of that acceptance.
Outward act can support the already spiritual birth and immersion into Christ by the Spirit. We are only accepted in the beloved by grace through faith. It is not by works of righteousness that we have done that we are saved. But being saved we show forth the work of the Lord from within and then we can work righteousness as we walk in faith.
To refuse Christian water baptism when it is readily available might mean you are not ready to handle other responsibility like having the indwelling Holy Spirit and you are hurting yourself.
No, this is not what scripture teaches. We must show scripture for what is said here.

And show by scripture that the church and Gentiles we’re suppose to continue water baptism is not as easy as you might think. If the one baptism of Ephesians was water and not by the Spirit into Christ, then water baptism would be that one saving baptism. But we can safely be assured that many may have water baptism and still not be baptised into Christ. Showing that the reality one saving baptism is..
Why not be baptized again (there is no rule against this) to experience all you can from being baptized?
We should not just make up commands of men we need scripture for things we do and to be led of the Spirit.

And in. ACTS 1:5 we see the water baptism. IS GOING TO TERMINATED '

Jesus tells us why He was baptized:

Matt. 3:15 Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.

John’s baptism was a righteous act, so Jesus could be a great example of doing a righteous act.

Just because the phrase “baptized in water” is not used and just baptized is used does not mean water was not used, we know this because we are told they were in water, went down into water or came out of water after the baptism.

John 3:23 Now John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because there was plenty of water, and people were coming and being baptized.

Acts 8:36 As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?” 38 And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him. 39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing.

Was the eunuch baptized in water?

Matt. 28: 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

This is the Great Commission and we are to “Baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” but if the “Spirit” is doing the baptizing than what do we do?

Act 2:38… “Repent and be baptized, every one of you”. Notice there are two actions the person is doing the Holy Spirit does not repent the person, grammar says the people decide to do both and is not saying, “repent and allow the Spirit to baptize you”

Acts 8:16 because the Holy Spirit had not yet come on any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

So what baptism was this?

Acts 10:47 “Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.”

Those are Gentiles, so would you have stood in their way to be baptized with water?

Romans 6:3 Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?

Water baptism fits the going down under and coming out of a death, but how does Spiritual baptism fit?

In 1 Cor. 1 Paul says: “I also baptized…” but if the Spirit is doing the Baptizing, Paul should not be taking the credit.

In 1 Cor. People were making a big deal over who actually physically baptized them, but if the Spirit is doing it, there is no difference, but they could perceive a difference if different people water baptized them.

You say water baptism was only for the Jews, yet we have Samaritans and gentiles water baptized in scripture, so we have examples of non-Jews being baptized.

Can you find any group saying the water itself saves the person and not God?
Many believe unless a person is water baptised they will not be saved.
People believe lots of stuff, we are to listen to God.
It is not a requirement for salvation, that I agree with. But many who believe it’s not a requirement still press it soo strongly. They will say,”oh,you don’t have to be water baptised to be saved” but you they still believe must do it or they would doubt your salvation.

Then as believers are baptised (immersed) into Christ and he in us we have Christ formed in us and are born again.this new inner man is the life and this happens not with observation.like the wind you don’t see when it comes or goes.
Col. 2: 12. Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.”

People in scripture did the baptizing and took credit for doing it and did not say at those times the Spirit did it, so what did these people do?
The flesh prophet lets nothing the words that Jesus spoke they were spirit and life Johnn 6:63
You can have physical experiences. The joy of physically being persecuted like the prophets of old are not just words.
If a person is in the saving baptism into Christ and has put on Christ. The reflection of that life will be manifest in is physical life as he walks in the spirit .others will see the fruit of the life in live, peace, joy, righteousness etc.
Christians can witness the physical water baptism of a new convert and see the likeness of Christ’s death, burial and resurrection.
With the heart man believes unto righteousness and like the never don’t see where it comes abd goes

And what we should use to make our point is from scripture
People need to experience Christ here by them on earth, so allow Christ to live through you and not just words in a book.
Paul says not eith the wisdom of words. There are many things men will say to justify water baptism. But let’s stick with scripture here. We cannot make up things and suspected and shadows of the OT to be for the new
Is Christian water baptism a sin?
Without the shedding of blood there is no remission and we have been washed in the blood of Christ for our sins.He washed us from our sins in his own blood.
The water itself is not washing your sins away, but your have been forgiven by God, baptism provides a physical experience mimicking the sins being washed away. We drink wine with communion and that wine physically represents Christ’s blood going over your heart cleansing your heart, even though it is only wine going down your throat.
I listed most already:

These are the wisdom of words not scripture.
Col. 2: 12. Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.”

Are you saying I and others did not experience that?
No,no scripture says this. Many things come from man’s traditions and misunderstanding of the covenants and spiritual immersion into Christ
How did Christians in the NT “immerse people into Christ”, since the Spirit did it?
No,it didn’t… there is no scripture to show this. If being water baptised in water for remission of sins was Johns baptism and being water baptised in water was Christian baptism, then they are the exact same in manner and type. But that vid not scripture. The Jewish believers were very attached to the law and old covenant still and Johns water baptism was close. They continued in these things for a while.
We have this Bible story: Acts 19: While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples 2 and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”

They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

3 So Paul asked, “Then what baptism did you receive?”

“John’s baptism,” they replied.

4 Paul said, “John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” 5 On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. 7 There were about twelve men in all.

This story takes some understanding of the Greek to interpret correctly:

Paul equates the receiving of the Holy Spirit to a Christian believe, since the Bible describes these 12 guys as disciples (so they were disciples [believers to some degree in Christ]).

Paul than goes on in the context of receiving the Holy Spirit, with the type of Baptism they had “received”, which was John’s water baptism.

John’s baptism was before the indwelling portion of Holy Spirit was received by people. John 7:39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.

John’s baptism did not provide the indwelling portion of the Spirit.

Then we have “On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.” With a period or conjunction at the end of the line put there by the translators of scripture since there is no punctuation in the ancient Greek nor was a conjunction use. This is where you need to understand some Greek. The Greek throw context and marks can tell the Greek scholar where the sentence ends and/or what goes together. The next part after their baptism was: “When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.” This is very much like what happen in Samaria Acts 8: 12 But when they believed Philip as he proclaimed the good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. …. they sent Peter and John to Samaria. 15 When they arrived, they prayed for the new believers there that they might receive the Holy Spirit, 16 because the Holy Spirit had not yet come on any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 17 Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
All believers today can have the baptism WITH tjevHolybGhost, and the gifts never ceased.
Have you seen people verifiably being raised from the dead by Spirit filled people?
But Jesus said he would baptize with the Holy Ghost. The Spirit baptised or immerses us into the body of Christ.
When did Jesus baptize anyone?
Notice that Peter remembered Jesus saying John baptized with water but… so it appears that Peter was practicing Johns water baptism still
Peter is not saying he was doing John’s baptism and these were Gentiles.
They had Christ in them and the Father before Pentecost but the Holy Ghost came after Jesus death to devoured upon all flesh .but this is another long talk.
Some people before Pentecost had a temporary portion of the Spirit.
.Burger know that it was figurative because blood had to be shed for the remission of dins.
Col. 2:12. Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.”
The man beating his chest in repentance and looking to God for forgiveness and seeking Gods righteousness went home justified.and it did not depend on outward works or water baptism or having another dona work on them in water baptizing them.
Right, water does not save you.
If in Ephesians we read that there is one baptism… that baptism must be the one saving baptism spoken of by 1peter 3:21 and that one saving baptism must be where we put on Christ and that must be the spiritual baptism by theorist into one body, into the body of Christ.
Both the Jews and the Gentiles were Christian water baptized, so they are united in that way.
No, this is not what scripture teaches. We must show scripture for what is said here.
I said “might mean”.
Look at the context, which is Paul talking to Jewish and Gentile Christians and trying to unite them, by pointing out what they both have done or had done to them equally.
We should not just make up commands of men we need scripture for things we do and to be led of the Spirit.
I’m not making a command, but seeing an opportunity.

You say water baptism was only for the Jews, yet we have Samaritans and gentiles water baptized in scripture, so we have examples of non-Jews being baptized.
I am not saying only Jews were baptized, I was refering to the Jews still following the law and sacrifices abd Johns water baptism, that was for the Jews as scripture shows initially. John baptized to manifest Jesuscto Israel as scripture says abd for remission of sins to Israel.

Peter water baptized Gentiles in Acts 10, but they were already saved and speaking with tongues before this.peter was in a questioning way and we read in the next chapter he rehearsed the event and said then (while he was baptizing them I suppose) he remembered the words if the Lord how that John baptized with water but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. So it would seem like he was still following Johns OT water baptism in some way.

So Peter was still following John the Baptist old covenant shadow in water baptism he may also have been following the Halakah law for Gentiles.

We see that Peter avenue Jews were trying to make the Gentiles live like the Jews and to bring the Gentiles under the law, do they themselves were not free fully from the old covenant understanding and sacrifices and the jaw. As we see in scripture(Acts 15,Acts 21)

We also read that the Jews tried to circumcise Titus a Gentile and even though Paul did circumcise Timothy (Acts16) he would have none of it and Paul said

Galatians 2: 3. But neither Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised: 4. And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage: 5. To whom we gave place by subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you. 14. But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?”

And we know that in Acts 10 when we see the Gentiles coming into the visible church the issue of whether the Gentiles should keep the law to be saved and be circumcised was not fully dealt with until Acts 15

We are to baptize people and Christians in the Bible baptized Gentiles, so how do you “immerse” people into Christ?
We do not immerse people into Christian, it is by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body (1Cor.12:13)

Can you find any group saying the water itself saves the person and not God?
I did not say any said the water “itself” saves. Just as circumcision itself dies not save and yet sone believed they must be saved by being circumcised and keep the law of Moses. To add water baptism to the gospel makes another gospel if it is needful to be saved. It doesn’t mean water itself is the issue to save. But if a person adds world of righteousness or the world of the law or diverse washings and carnal ordinances to be saved they confound the gospel (1 Cor.15)

If a man said I must keep the law of Gods and be circumcised to be saved(which done of the believers were trying to imply in Acts 15, of course they would say it is God that saves them by doing that. This is the same as water baptism

I am in full agreement with the doctrine of the Jewish Christians (including Peter) for at least a while in the first century wanting the Gentiles to at least follow the “Old Law” of circumcision, food requirements and keeping some days as Sabbath days. Paul never seemed to follow this, but among the Jews he would at least sometimes follow the Law.

You try to make the point that the word “with water” is not used after all the times baptism, but we know that some times it has to be talking about water baptism when only baptism is used.

I do not see anyone following John’s baptism of repentance after Pentecost, but performing Christian water baptism.

Acts 1:5 “For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” Jesus did not say, “you will baptize with the Holy Spirit”, but they (specifically) would be baptized with the Spirit.

Acts 8:12 “But when they believed Philip as he proclaimed the good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.” This is not with the Spirit since later we have: Acts 8:16 “because the Holy Spirit had not yet come on any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.” Again, John’s baptism was not “in the name of Jesus” and these are non-Jews.

Acts 8:36 As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?”…”And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him.”

This is the same Philip who baptized non-Jews in Acts 8:12. The eunuch goes on his way, so when and how was he baptized with the Spirit?

Again, the Eunuch understanding of “baptism” had to do with water and not something the Spirit had already done to him.

Acts 10:47 “Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.” 48 So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.”

Does this not point out that being “baptized in the name of Jesus Christ” was “water baptism”?

Peter was inspired to say: “Surely no one can stand in the way”, but are you not one who would stand in the way, saying: “They should not be baptized with “water”? Does that “no one” not include you today?

Water Baptism is something you get to do, and not something you have to do to be saved. It has helped me and others, so are we sinning?
