  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A California gubernatorial candidate is vowing to end the “obscenity of biological boys in girls’ sports” as he encourages Republicans to remain optimistic about the party’s chances in the uphill quests to win major statewide races this year.

Pastor Jack Hibbs of Calvary Chapel Church in Chino Hills, California, hosted a discussion with two Republican candidates seeking statewide office in California this year: gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton and attorney general candidate Michael Gates. The two candidates shared their views on the problems roiling California and what they would do if elected.

California hasn't had a Republican governor since Arnold Schwarzenegger left office after the 2010 election and hasn't had a Republican attorney general in decades.

I think California is too far gone. Newsome wins. Then he can do his presidential bid for the 2028 election.

Never say never. Maybe God isn’t finished with California yet! Miracles can occur!

I’m happy someone has common sense to keep men out of women’s sports!

Yes, maybe God can save Godless California. We can only pray it will one day become like Mississippi, God-fearing and poor. Blessed are the poor, Jesus said.

Poor? Who knows?

I trust in God’s mercy and Providence alone!

I hope everyone loves God and has a livable, sustainable wage!

Putting politics aside!

Of all the obscenities in American life, it's nice to see him focusing on the one with the easiest, most vulnerable targets and the least practical significance to most people. It's certainly the path Christ would have chosen.

I take it you walk lock step with Christ? That's the problem with Christians always looking at someone else when they should be looking in the mirror.

No, I don’t. But I’d like to think that if I were getting on stage to articulate a message to people, I’d be extra careful.

Why not both?

Your word would carry more weight if you complained about your own Christian politicians not doing what Christ would do.
Why not both?
Because it makes you out to be a hypocrite. I have my own sins to deal with; why be a hypocrite and start complaining about someone else?

He wants to protect women. Plain and simple.

When they air those opinions in a church during a discussion moderated by the pastor of that church, I'd be happy to.

It's not hypocritical to point out flaws in others' behaviors.

Yes, it is when you don't include your politician.
"My politicians" weren't involved here.

I also don't recall the last time I saw any of "my politicians" holding court in a church. Maybe Obama during his first run? Most of "my politicians" don't lean on religion much at all. James Talarico in TX does and I'd have some quibbles with some of his positions, too.

I can't say that the other states are doing well in that category. Whether we agree with political goings on in states doesn't mean that what states do are godly. Claudius didn't put his image in the Temple like Caligula intended to do for himself, but that didn't mean he was godly.

It amazes me how it’s controversial wanting to keep biological males out of women’s sports or private areas. This isn’t about religion. It’s about safety and respect for others.

Women deserve privacy and protection. Period!

Men and women are different. That’s a biological fact regardless of someone’s “identity” or feelings.

It amazes me how willing so many are to get up in arms about something that, in a very practical sense, impacts a vanishingly small number of people. It's almost as if there was another purpose for stoking this outrage.

This isn’t about religion. It’s about safety and respect for others.

No it isn't. The guy in the OP described it as an "obscenity." That's got nothing to do with safety and little I've seen come from the right on the subject of transgenderism could remotely be called "respectful."

There are very legitimate questions to be wrestled with in this subject, but the notion that the right is somehow worried about the safety and sanctity of women's sports is pretty laughable. Virtually everywhere women athletes try to get expanded access, pay, or marketing, they're met with derision. Co-ed sports leagues of all ages exist everywhere across the country. My favorite example was the Christian high school citing "safety concerns" in refusing to allow their girls basketball team to play another team with a trans girl, while at the same time fielding a co-ed soccer team. Serious competitive endeavors are typically segregated, but rec leagues and training sessions are often not, yet somehow we all manage.

There are ways to manage the dangers and fairness imbalances represented by size differences - that's why many sports have weight classes. I'm sure creative people could figure out ways to accomodate transgender athletes, too, without foaming at the mouth and treating them like pedophiles.

Trans “girls” are boys. They belong on the boys team: and no! They shouldn’t be accommodated because that’s not fair to the girls who worked so hard!

Yes, trans people have a serious mental illness. That’s doesn’t mean people are treating them “like pedophiles”

Good grief

Edit; this isn’t about co Ed sports, rather girl sports only. In other words, males don’t belong in girl sports.

For the record, I don’t care what adults do. They can make their own decisions. It’s none of my business, anyway.

Just leave minors out of it, which I think is a fair compromise. They’re impressionable and don’t need to be exposed to an extreme ideology.

That’s fair, IMHO.
