  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Has anyone here learned Church Slavonic? I found this blog which seems to have some good piecemeal resources and references to quite a few books, but didn't know if there was anything better out there. I studied Russian for one year in college, so I'm not starting from a complete blank slate, although I am very rusty.

I grew up with it so I never had to learn it, sorry I can't be more helpful

it’s hard to beat actually attending a Slavonic liturgy on a regular basis, especially if you bring a cheat sheet or online way of following along with the service with you. That’s how I learned it. It may not be possible, but if it is, it is highly practical.

That's an option I hadn't thought of. There aren't any parishes around me that have a Slavonic liturgy, but surely there are some online I could watch for studying.
