  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I just want to ask, are there actually any Venezuelans here who are upset with Trump for capturing Maduro?
I don't think we have any venezuelan forum members who frequent this part of the forum, at least.

Venezuelans are probably not greatly concerned about foreign minutia like the US constitution.

Im also reminded of how the euphoria over the fall of Saddam faded when reality hit back.

That said, Maduro was a piece of...... work. And if no other issues were at stake, his exit would be very welcome imo.

I thought the whole point of MAGA was to impose Christian values politically.
You thought wrong. Thats the left that wants that. Lol.

To be fair though the right and the left wants to impose some Christian values on everyone. You can tell thats what they want when they bring it up. Although im not sure that any one has brought up Christian values in regard to America first.

Doesn't really make it any better - just means Trump is completely shameless.

In some ways it's worse, because we've got people here actively cheering him on in spite of it.
Trump actually listed a number of things. Oil was one of them. Venezuela siezed American assets including the oil they were producing.

And yet there is a short sighted view as well as a more thoughtful nuanced view. A rising tide lifts all ships. We now live in a globally interrelated economic & social system more than ever.
Hopefully, the removal of Maduro will.lift the sinking Venezuela boat.

So you are just implying that Christians are wrong for saying "America First" because you believe that real Christians should support a Christian theocracy? If not, then what the heck are you talking about?
Christians should first support the Kingdom of Heaven and their fellow ambassadors of the Kingdom who are posted to the various worldly nations. the Christian theocracy is Heaven, and at this moment Heaven is not a nation of the world.

Frankly, no Christian should be "America first" or any other worldly nation first. That should never come from a Christian's lips. Christ will ultimately destroy all worldly nations.

A Christian should be "Heaven first." Only Heaven will endure.

They did, but the oil companies sued them and were reimbursed for the seized assets.

I think I'd keep Merz if it's either him or Trump. But it's close.

Didn't Oliver Masucci play a German president or something?

Maybe the next US president will pardon Maduro and his wife.

I mean, why not?

Assuming this case goes to trial. I think both parties have reasons to setttle before being forced to provide evidence in court.

In a country with a normal, functioning legal system, that should be all that need be said.
You do know why the Federal government started trying Civil Rights violations, right? And I know of an instance, around a century and a half past, of a company who couldn't get local courts to rule the way they wanted, and used pull to get the proceedings moved to Federal court. There is a reason Judge Sol Wachtler said a district attorney could get grand juries to "indict a ham sandwich" and Robert Frost said a jury "...consists of twelve persons chosen to decide who has the best lawyer."

That is what is normal, and has been for a very long time.

Settle? This is a criminal case. Maduro might be found guilty on all or some counts, or innocent on all counts, but settlement isn't an option. The best he could do is cut a deal in a plea bargain, or offer information or influence for a commuted sentence.

This would be relevant if we were talking about people convicted during those periods, but we're not. Donald Trump was convicted of 34 felony counts in 2023.

You've completely missed the point of that statement.

Robert Frost was a poet, not a lawyer, judge, or legal scholar.
