  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Joy, tears and chants of "freedom" as Venezuelans

Joy, tears and chants of "freedom" as Venezuelans in South Florida react to Nicolas Maduro's capture

Venezuelans in South Florida poured into the streets of Doral early Saturday, celebrating what many called a historic turning point for their country after President Nicolas Maduro was removed from power, according to President Donald Trump.
Celebrations erupted outside El Arepazo restaurant, a longtime gathering spot for the Venezuelan community, where people hugged, sang and waved flags as the sun came up.
Chants of "Libertad" echoed through the area as crowds sang both the U.S. and Venezuelan national anthems, marking a moment many said they had waited decades to see.

Nicolas Maduro's tight grip on Venezuela shaken loose by Trump blitz

Jan 3 (Reuters) - Nicolas Maduro ruled Venezuela with a heavy hand for more than 12 years, presiding over deep economic and social crises and resisting pressure from domestic opponents and foreign governments for political change.
His rule abruptly ended on Saturday when President Donald Trump announced U.S. forces had captured him and flown him out of the country. Trump said later the U.S. would run Venezuela with a group, adding this would be "until such time as we can do a safe, proper and judicious transition."

No doubt they are glad to see him gone. He was a corrupt and incompetent tyrant. The question is, will they be grateful enough to want to give their oil back to US companies?

According to the Venezuelan Constitution, if the President is unable to carry out his duties then the Vice President takes the position. Or don't we care about that?

Does the Constitution address a President being forcefully removed? It's not that he can't carry out his duties - it's that he has been arrested and his regime removed.

Maria Corina Machado emerges as top potential successor after Maduro’s fall

The successors to the ousted authoritarian Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro are likely to be the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winner and opposition leaders María Corina Machado and Edmundo González, according to an expert on Caracas.

Jorge Jraissati, a Venezuelan who is the president of the Economic Inclusion Group, told Fox News Digital that "Machado and Gonzalez would assume a transitional government in Venezuela. They have the support of 70% of Venezuelans. They would lead this transition period." He added that "I believe Machado has the capacity and integrity to lead this very delicate transition. Key will be her ability to surround herself with young and capable Venezuelans instead of career politicians."

The United States recognized González as the legitimate leader of Venezuela after he soundly defeated Maduro by a more than two-to-one margin in the 2024 election. González replaced Machado after she was banned from running for the presidency by the Maduro-run high court. Maduro ignored the results.

The President said quite clearly that the goal was not regime change but merely the arrest of a wanted criminal. According to the Venezualan Constitution the acting President is Vice President Delcy Rodriguez. She is now in Russia trying to make a deal with Putin to stay in power.

What is the odds they will return back to Venezuela?????

Many Venezuelans residing in Miami and other states who are celebrating may not realize that, as of today, Venezuela is no longer under a dictatorship. Consequently, the 600,000 individuals currently holding TPS in the United States may no longer have a valid legal justification to remain in US. Their TPS status could be revoked quite easily.

Trump won’t like that.

We should check in with the Iraqis and how they're doing after the US invasion and toppling of their dictator.

Or the Libyans.

Or the Afghans.
Also the Southern States. They are still struggling to pull themselves out of the early Middle Ages after America conquered and occupied them.

They STILL haven’t fully assimilated into the modern era.

What does Russia have to do with the Venezuelan Constitution or a role in saying who is in control of the country?

I guess thats the reason for the big ice recruitment campaign.

After the second world war, Poland was under the rule of stalin, a man who was arguably a worse dictator than hitler.

So was a large part of germany.

It is pretty sad that it is almost certain there is no sane well considered plan for regime change just like iraq , afghanistan, Vietnam. I hope for the same outcome as Germany or Japan but I doubt it.
Not much oil in Japan or Germany.

First you said:

Or the Libyans.

Or the Afghans.
To which I replied

How about Germany? Poland? The Japanese? How are they doing after the US invasion and toppling of their dictator?
Now you moved the goal posts to:
As far as I know Maduró is Venezuelan.

Now their country is being run by our people.
Would you rather have the dictator who starved and killed his own population?

The Venezuelans sure don't.

Not much oil in Japan or Germany.
Nope - just hundreds of millions of dollars to rebuild their countries with promises of repayment reneged on time after time after time.
