Guilty until proven innocent: HHS freezing child care payments to all states until they prove funds 'being spent legitimately'

This is throwing the baby out with the bath water. I agree with freezing payments to Minnesota and, after recent revelations, California. But, the federal government should not penalize all 50 states for the mis-deeds of a couple.

I added California because of the release of the state's own audit (not the feds or citizen journalism!) showing over 70 billion in potential fraud over the past 5 years. Although this was cited as a reason to freeze payments to all states, it is not being reported well in the mainstream media.

That and the political bonus of targeting Somalis, dark people, immigrants and Ilhan Omar, Walz, and blue states in general.

Here's the Cal state audit report:

They added one agency this year due to "errors in calculating benefits".
7 agencies remain on their high risk list because they have not addressed the issues that have been reported over the past several years. Unemployment insurance "Continues to Struggle with Improper Payments"
Then there's the state's homelessness program that spends billions of dollars a year. The report states it is not on the list because of pending reporting required by the legislature, but the agencies have been slow to implement the reporting and it will likely be listed in their next cycle.

So, technically, it is not "fraud" and lost money, but the fact that agencies have not addressed the concerns raised in prior years shows a lack of willingness to fix the problems.

The states, just like every other layer of government is entrusted with tax money collected from the people to spend that money wisely and in the best interest of the people. So, it is imperative they minimize fraud, waste, and abuse. This should not be politically based - just look at compliance and results.

I see at least 20 more lawsuits heading to the courts. Trump's illegal activities are making the legal profession very wealthy.

I wonder if theres a set of Trump admin policy makers who are motivated to do what they think makes having children harder for non white minorities?

I realized thats a pretty charged notion. But it does seem like theres a home at the White House for certain people of that ideological bent.
