CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm not a subscriber to the trash that is NYT so I can't verify (and again, that 12 miles in a MINIMUM for international waters, not a measurement of where stuff actually went on).

It doesn't matter if it was just Marijuana. It is being sold to fund murderous drug cartels. If you think what they were doing is insignificant, then why the smuggling? Why not make Marijuana trade a legitimate business? Answer: They are using it to fund narco terrorism. No different from the Taliban growing and selling opium to fund their terrorist operations.

Ok, ehm, since when selling drugs, i mean i think is bad, but since when selling drugs is an immediate death sentence without any judging, and even without really knowing if its true or not, is not this events a bit 'misplaced'?

Experts on the local drug trade said smuggling marijuana and cocaine together was common on the Guajira Peninsula and in other areas along Colombia’s coastline. Transporting the two drugs together, they said, often indicated that the smugglers were operating on a smaller scale, rather than as part of large cartels. At least half a dozen interdictions of smuggling boats by the Colombian authorities in the past year have found both drugs, according to local news reports.
“The cocaine and marijuana market in La Guajira is operated by small community-based ventures as much as it is by armed groups,” said Estefanía Ciro, who leads a Colombian research institute studying narcotics trafficking. “This narrative of cartels, of Pablo Escobar, doesn’t allow us to see that in many places this is everyday life. One day they carry marijuana, another cocaine, another fish.”

How do we know rhe smugglers were just smuggling weed? This claim rhat it was only weed is not substantiated. Drugs like cocain or fentanyl could easily been destroyed in the ocean. The weed on the dudes could also just be theirs. Thats if it was substantiated that they actually had some. I'm still not convinced as to the veracity of the story or the conclusions some are making about it.
