When it comes to the Epstein files which this is obviously being compared to, the last administration had years to go over every inch of them. Redactions were made to copies of files issued to the public. This situation is an entirely different kettle of fish.

I would suspect it has something to do with what they both claim to stand for.

A person who's unapologetically rich, bragged about being rich, and said "being rich is good" doesn't present an ideological conflict when they do things to get richer. A person who's demonized being rich and critiqued capitalism, and then makes multi-million dollars via a venture capital firm, does present a conflict.

And people tend to view ideological hypocrisy like a shark views chum in the water.


To use an example in a different realm...

It's the same reason why when Ted Haggard was busted doing drugs with male prostitute, it was a much bigger scandal than when George Michael was caught doing the same thing. George Michael hadn't made a career out of demonizing drug use or gay sex.
