  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You read "if it's about salvation, it's the elect", rather than looking at the context. Not the best way to read Scripture IMO.
Yes, any scriptures regarding Gods will or desire to save anyone, no matter who it is, their social standing, race, or whatever, its in regards to the Promise Matt 1:21, see Gods will, desires are in conformity with His Purpose and Promise.

In Mark 16:15-16, Jesus says that those who believe the Gospel and are baptized will be saved. Why do you dispute what Jesus said? Jesus said nothing about being chosen in that context. Are we to believe what Jesus said, or are we to believe that God is a trickster who offers salvation to mankind (i.e. the Gospel) while denying the capacity for many to believe? The word of God does not say that God blocks us from believing - it is only the trickster word of Calvin that proclaims that doctrine of devils.
Yes and this is because "those who believe the Gospel" are the ones who are consequently chosen. That's the way round that God's logic is.

Interesting! Your friends in the Calvinistic camp John Piper and R.C. Sproul disagrees with you, but who are they anyway? ^_^

Its a positive promise that Jesus will shall save His People from their sins !

Matt 1:21

21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.

His people are all who belong to Him Gal 3:29

29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

And Christ Jesus came to save sinners, not make it possible 1 Tim 1:15,13

15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

To save sinners like He saved the Apostle Paul, in fact thats what hes writing of in the above scripture, how He was saved from blaspheming, and persecuting and unbelief and ignorance

13 Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.

And how Christ saved Zacchaeus Lk 19:2-10

2 And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.

3 And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.

4 And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.

5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.

6 And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.

7 And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.

8 And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord: Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.

9 And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.

10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

You see how Christ came to seek and to save Paul and Zacchaeus, thats how He saves in one fashion or another each of them He came to save from their sins.

You have it backwards, its those who are chosen that consequently are called and they believe. 1 Pet 2:9

9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;

Paul writing to the Thessalonians cites the same order chosen then called and belief 2 Thess 2:13-14

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

This is a promise to every man, every woman, every single person of every people, Jew or Gentile. Yes, indeed a promise for everyone!

Seek the Lord while He may be found;
Call upon Him while He is near.
Let the wicked forsake his way
And the unrighteous man his thoughts;
And let him return to the Lord,
And He will have compassion on him,
And to our God,
For He will abundantly pardon.
— Isaiah 55:6-7

So did Christ Jesus come to save them who were not His people from their sins ? We know it was announced that He came to save His People from their sins Matt 1:21

21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.

In the NT "His people" always refer to the Jews. God bless!

So why did Jesus call these jews here this Jn 8:39-44

39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.

40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.

41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.

42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.

44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

So were these jews Christ people He came to save ? The children of the devil ? They are jews right ?

Before you are saved you belong to the devil. It's true of those Jews and it was true of you and me. The words of Jesus are very hard and were intended to bring fear of judgment leading to repentance, but those Jews chose to harden their hearts instead. Further on in chapter 10 Jesus tells the Jews to believe in his works. If they did they would understand he was the Messiah, and repent. It was not too late for them. They could still be children of Abraham.

If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; but if I do them, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father.”

NLT has added "His people" to those passages. It's not in the original Greek.

Before you are saved you belong to the devil.
The children of God are held captive by the devil but are never the children of the devil. So the children of God may belong to the devil in captivity, yet they aren't the children of the devil, Jesus came to save His People, the children of God Jn 11:51-52

50 Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.

51 And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;

52 And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.

Jesus can only be a kinsman redeemer to the children of God. Do you believe He is a kinsman redeemer to the children of the devil also ?

You are correct. My Bible app defaults to NLT off line which is why I ended up with the NLT version. Typically I use the NASB. Good catch.
