  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I just watched this video and was left a bit shocked. Has anyone ever been to one of these Churches? If so, would you say it’s accurate?

I attended a fully LGBT church / gay church to see what their services are really like and share the biblical gospel. In this video, I walk through the entire service — from the songs and preaching to the activities — and share my honest reflections on what I experienced. I also had a conversation with the pastor about what they truly believe and how they interpret Scripture.

It seems like the Evangelical pastor made valid observations in kindness as to how lost the community he visited was. There is no acknowledgment of sin and salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ. There seems to be an absolute demand to be inclusive to the world and only the exclusive truth of the Lord ( John 14:6 per John 14:1-31 ) is not acknowledged except as maybe quaint sentimentality.

My Episcopal parish is LGBT-affirming, as are many of the churches in my area, from a variety of denominations. I've also attended services at LGBT-affirming churches and cathedrals in other states while travelling.

The church service described in the video doesn't really match my own experiences. The only times I've experienced services that were full of LGBT themes and decorations were services that were specifically observing an LGBT-related occasion (Pride Month in June, for example). Outside of these special occasions, we just hold ordinary services, with no mention of LGBT themes. We read the assigned Scripture texts in the lectionary, preach and sing about whatever's in those texts, and follow the Rite II liturgy from the Prayer Book. The altar hangings and banners are the ones appropriate to the season of the Church Year.

The pastor described in the video seemed a bit fuzzy on his commitment to Christian beliefs, and if I had a chance, I'd like to talk with him about his beliefs, to understand his thinking better. (Note that we only hear his words as filtered through the video commentator.) In my parish, we recite the Nicene Creed as part of our liturgy every Sunday, and it's clear in our liturgy that Christ is central for us. "For us and our salvation, he came down from heaven." The video doesn't mention the type of church the speaker visited. There will be significant differences between, say, a Unitarian church, a Friends Meeting, a Baptist church, and an Episcopal parish, even if all are LGBT-affirming.

The UCCs I‘ve been to didn’t match what the video said, either.

Correction: I see from the church banner shown in the video that the church is Church of the Trinity, website CHURCH OF THE TRINITY – Part of The Uniting Church in Australia . They are part of the Uniting Church in Australia. I don't know enough about the Uniting Church in Australia to comment on whether this congregation is typical of the denomination as a whole.

The video seemed off to me which is why I’m asking. I am aware of the LGBT apologetics concerning Scripture as mentioned in the video but the description sounded a bit over the top to me. People made to walk in the front so everyone can stare at them, etc.

The bit about walking in front might just be an accident of the layout of the building, where they've chosen to put the doors in the sanctuary. Still, I'd prefer to have doors in the back, in case someone needs to leave quietly during the service or in case a latecomer wants to slip in without disturbing everyone.

I liked the man in the video. He seemed kind and discussed things with the Pastor gently. His feeling of sadness, about how lost the Congregation are, is how I imagine Jesus feels about them. They need proper teaching.

Jesus accepts people coming to Him as they are, but then He changes them. As the people seem to be seeking something deeper, I trust that they will find Jesus and that their souls will be so overjoyed that they gladly relinquish their gay lifestyles and embrace the gospel. They are being let down by the current teaching.

I agree. I've been to a few and most folks there were retired and in their 70's and 80's. Open and Affirming is a good thing. What better place for anybody to be than in Church? The bible was opens, scriptures were read, and messages preached.
An lgdtv+ church is like a christian bar it doesn't make any sense, stop calling them churches.
What do you call them?

Never heard a one say anything about stealing. The Baptist seem to be best at that. Never heard one say fornication is ok. That's another predominately holy mackerel Protestant thing. So, you are saying that I, as a unitarian, who doesn't discriminate against anybody - is a heretic and the enemy of God for being a musician in an O&A Church?

If a preacher says stealing fornicating murdering or adultering is ok, he is an heretic, enemy of the gospel, the same with the 'other' sin. Worse because that is calling good evil and evil good. Have you read your bible? it says in the last days people would listen to preachers that would sweet their ears, and they would not follow truth.

Why go to the typical low blow "Have you read your bible?" I bet I've read over more than you have. For one you know nothing about me.

We are all heretics. Nobody has everything right.

A reminder, as our conversation proceeds, that according to the rules for this forum, we may not discuss the morality of same-sex relationships in the Junk Drawer forum. "Is this video an accurate portrayal of LGBT-affirming churches?" is an acceptable question for discussion, but "Are same-sex relationships morally acceptable?" is not. See https://www.christianforums.com/threads/the-junk-drawer-statement-of-purpose.8016184/

Is a basic thing to learn about the gospel that sin is bad and to acknowledge what is wrong and right, today modern society is confusing people.
