  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It makes perfect sense that she'd butter-up the current head of the executive branch, since he's sympathetic to both flattery and sex offenders.
It could lead to a pardon for her husband who is serving time for sex crime(s).

He was under house arrest for failing to register as a sex offender back in 2022.
It was one year of home detention

I swore she was asexual. I’m probably confusing her with someone else.

I seem to recall a slightly different tone from some folks when it was her "Partner in rap" Cardi B conducting an interview with Biden.

Did she have a dream or something? Why the change?

I wonder what this will do to her fan base?

As far as her fan base for her actual "music" (and not the ones who were merely following on instagram), probably not much.

The people who would be the most offended by this (who were actually in the target demo) are the suburban white college women.

That's perhaps one striking cultural difference I've noticed between White people and Black people with regards to product consumption (whether that product be food, music, movies, etc.)

White people are more prone to do the whole "even though I like the product, I'm going to avoid it because I don't like the politics of the person who made it"

Snoop Dogg, Chris Brown, Rick Ross, Kodak Black, Lil Wayne and Nelly all either voiced support for Trump or even performed at an event for him. As far as I know, none have had any sort of earth shattering erosion in their fan base as a result.

And Kanye!
As far as I know, there are still people who listen to him.

Music is one of those things where it's not as "easily boycotted" for a lack of a better term (I would lump filmmakers in the same category to an extent as well)

It's not like chain stores and restaurants.

If the heads of Walmart do something someone doesn't like, there's always Target (and vice versa)
If McDonalds does something politically unsavory in someone's view, there's always 5 other fast food options

As where Musicians & Filmmakers are a little more "one of a kind"

Saying "I'm going to buy my Cascade dishwasher tabs at this other grocery store instead, even if it costs $0.79 more, because I don't like with the CEO of this other store said",
vs
"I'm really in the mood to listen to that one song by So & So, but they said/did something I didn't like, so I'm going to listen to this other artist from the same genre instead"... doesn't really work the same way.

Tbh when I hear certain Ted Nugent songs I turn them up. Of course. They rock! (Others tho are harder to stomach - not because of politics, but just a certain shade of fundamental creepness underlying them.)

And my ex GF really hates Trump but still cant cut Kanye totally loose.

Regardless...... Im not sure how all this is important. Are these celebs trying to reverse the growing Trump skepticism out there? Is it working?

I think in the case of some of these musicians (in particular, the ones that have gone from left to right)

Nobody wanted to be the "first" to take that leap. Because nobody knew what the risks were

They probably still have memories of what happened to the Dixie Chicks when they went against the political grain of the genre they were in and paid a heavy monetary price for it. because while people on the left appreciated their messaging, the people on the left they were appealing to with it weren't going to magically start liking country music overnight and buy their albums

But right from the get go, it's probably always been in Nicki Minaj's financial interests to be a republican, she's a mega millionaire who's probably paying a ton in both income and property taxes

She lives in LA now, which means she's not getting a great return on investment from all of those taxes, she wouldn't be the first well-to-do person in that area who's perhaps become a little disenfranchised with the way things are being run out there. Like anyone else, she probably doesn't want to walk down the streets and see tents and human dung on the sidewalk, and doesn't want lawlessness when she travels into the city

And like I touched on earlier, with regards to some of the social issues, despite typically voting for the same party, there are differences between the Black & Hispanic community vs. Progressive White communities. (especially among the women from those cohorts, particularly in how they view men/masculinity)

It kind of sad how right Dixie Chicks were in hindsight. I mean the anti Iraq war lefties were always with them. And now the MAGAs in their delayed hindsight are skeptical of huge new faked up wars too.... at least until Trump tells them otherwise.

But right from the get go, it's probably always been in Nicki Minaj's financial interests to be a republican, she's a mega millionaire who's probably paying a ton in both income and property taxes
Could well be that shes taken up 1% er causes.

She lives in LA now, which means she's not getting a great return on investment from all of those taxes, she wouldn't be the first well-to-do person in that area who's perhaps become a little disenfranchised with the way things are being run out there. The biggest change there had nothing to do with elections, but was instead the supreme court letting cities and counties out of their straightjacket where they couldnt enforce anti street camping laws and so on.

Yeah, they’re people like anyone else. Doesn’t change my life in the slightest what their views are.
