No it does not.
“The study authors conclude that research to date has neither proved nor disproved the reality or meaning of patients' experiences and claims of awareness in relation to death. They say the recalled experience surrounding death merits further empirical investigation and plan to conduct studies that more precisely define biomarkers of clinical consciousness and that monitor the long-term psychological effects of resuscitation after cardiac arrest.”
OK so at the very least we have an open ended situation. Its neither proven or disproven. Tests so far support further investigation and not dismissing the findings.
So it is wrong to dismiss NDE at this point. Therefore we have to keep an open mind. When someone claims there is no such thing or no reality to NDE and other phenomena that people are experiencing then this is not based on science but a prior metaphysical beliefs that such phenomena can never happen.
Going back to the articles I linked. The point was not that the findings prove or disprove NDE scientifically (empirically). But that the brain activity for where these experiences happen occur in the same region as where real lived experiences happen. Not in the area of imagination and dream states.
As mentioned dream states or other states associated with brain activity that may cause imaginary visions are confusing, and forgotten easily. People can tell when something is a dream.
But to these experiencers these events are as real as everyday life and even more real they claim. These experiences last a lifetime and are never forgotten and often have life changing affects. They are in everyway copies of a real event.
So there is a destinction both from tests on brain activity and directly from the experiencers that show NDE phenomena is real and not in the imagination.
I liken the testimony of experiencers of NDE as like the testimony of a witness in court. Or a witness to Christs resurrection.
I think direct testimony of whats happening is a form of evidence similar to other scientific tests. But in this case instead of testing a substance in a test tube. We are testing the direct experiences. Treating them as a serious line of evidence that we can learn to understand reality.
Whereas empiricle science will demand only one kind of evidence. The physical aspect that we can see and touch. So anything that cannot be measured physically is dismissed as unreal.
So material science cannot even measure NDE and therefore the only way to understand this is by treating the direct testimony seriously as a valid line of evidence.
