  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

He came over here in 2021 and was granted asylum.
He didn't apply for asylum until December 2024, and it was granted in April of this year.

His legal stay ended in September 2025 and thus remained in the USA illegally.
He has been in the country legally from the time he arrived in 2021 until now. At no time was he in the country illegally.

He is here legally with request for green card pending.

“A Department of Homeland Security official told CBS News the suspect was paroled into the U.S. on humanitarian grounds back in 2021. That was the main legal mechanism the Biden administration used to welcome tens of thousands of Afghan evacuees after the Taliban takeover in August 2021.
Lakanwal later applied for asylum with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in 2024 and his application was granted in 2025, the DHS official said. But his request for a green card, which is tied to the asylum grant, is pending.”

His permission to be in the USA expired in September. Therefore, he was here now illegally.

....so, the suspect:

-supported American objectives in Afghanistan as part of an Afghan military unit working the CIA
-was granted legal entry into the US based on his prior support of American objectives in Afghanistan
-was granted in aslyum earlier this year.

What triggered him to turn to violence and intentionally target Guardsmen on duty two blocks from the White House?

Vabram: You made this same claim on page 2 - 6 days ago. And was corrected.

Yet here you are again, repeating wrong information. What gives?

Once again this is a failure of our Government. Biden's administration let him in and apparently a judge let him stay as an asylee.

We shouldn't be letting people from third world countries with their terrorism and Islamist points of view into this country.

Judges have nothing to do with asylum cases unless you're appealing a denial or are already in the removal process, which does not seem to be the case here.

Biden was president in April of this year?
There is a floating window: Biden was president from 2016 until approximately 6 month ago, until they stop needing Biden to blame.

So can I blame Biden for my nasty omelet yesterday? Because he killed all the chickens?

This person served the interest of our government for nearly a decade in Afghanistan. Reportedly, he was assigned to an Aghan military unit that was tasked by our own CIA to carry out missions that according to a friend, left him scared and likely dealing with PTSD. Were those scars apparent when he was granted a visa? Probably not. Like many US military veterans, he probably suffered silently, with no one around him that could related to experience he had in Afghanistan.

I don't know what the answer is here but I do believe that we, the U.S., have an obligation to care for those Afghan nationals that carried out our national interest for years in Afghanistan. Simiply declaring that all Afghans are dangerous based one former soldier flipping is wrong and immoral.

...from a volunteer that worked with the suspect:

He had tried to make a go of life in the coastal city of Bellingham, Wash., after he and his family were evacuated from Afghanistan by the U.S. military in August 2021. In Afghanistan, he had fought in a C.I.A.-trained paramilitary unit. In the United States, he did temporary jobs, took his five sons to a local mosque and hosted visitors for tea in an apartment decorated in traditional Afghan style, with floor pillows and red rugs.
But by early 2023, he started to show signs of depression and erratic behavior, according to accounts from a volunteer in northwest Washington who worked with his family.

In the months after, he sequestered himself inside his darkened bedroom, refused to answer his phone, and even failed to bathe or dress his sons when his wife left to take short breaks from him. He dropped out of the English classes he was supposed to take, did not seek work and stopped paying rent. His family received an eviction notice.

“Rahmanullah has not been functional as a person, father and provider since March of last year,” the volunteer wrote in a January 2024 email for a friend to send to a nonprofit group working with immigrants. “His behavior has changed greatly.”

...

Occasionally, Mr. Lakanwal did emerge from “dark isolation,” only to disappear onto the open road, taking seemingly aimless drives hundreds of miles away to Chicago and Phoenix and Indianapolis in “reckless travel,” the volunteer wrote. He posted photos from the car on Instagram.

I tried to make a go of life in Bellingham/Ferndale once. It was terrible, but I didn't start shooting random people thousands of miles away. Oh, wait, never mind.

I'd say the odds are pretty good that the Navy bought those "eggs" while Biden was still president, so yeah, definitely Biden's fault.

That is only correct because Biden was president in 2017.
