  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

As much as I detest Donald Trump, and will argue any day that his regime is a fascist regime...

...I do agree that this group is trying to disrupt the military chain of command at the lowest levels. That is the worst thing they can do to the US military and, consequently, to the nation.

They are coyly urging mutiny. This is a suicide option. If they are successful, it will take 30 years of good administration to bring the military back from that disaster...the current lower ranking NCOs and officers will have to have age out of service before the military would be reliable again.

They are hoping the literal cavalry will rescue the country from 20 years of bad voting decisions. But the military does not have the authority to stop the Commander in Chief, and we don't want them to try.

The nation elected this plate of green wienies, so we have to eat it.
Any thoughts on the new chain of command TRump and his folks have put into place?

Its analogous to the "court of public opinion". We can observe real things and make judgments that, even if correct, dont carry any force of law.

For my part, Im not sure. If not dementia, then something else is causing his mind to take its drunken walks from notion to notion. Could be a generic lack of focus tho.
We're all armchair shrinks.

I was hoping Biden would get a competent fitness for duty examination. Kamala should have insisted on it. She might have been president today had she done so. You can hope Trump gets the same. I suspect that won't happen though. For 'reasons'.

Trump has long had a stream of consciousness erratic speech pattern where he flits about and picks up a new thought, then another, and maybe gets back to the first one. It's disjointed but I can almost follow it. Sometimes. If I really try. Different than the Biden thing but at least a standard deviation away from how a normal person converses.

Trump is carrying out the purge of military leadership that the right-wing falsely accused Obama of doing.

Hegseth is an idiot.

The Department of Defense has threatened to recall Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz), a retired Navy veteran, back to active duty to face a possible court-martial or administrative measures a week after he and five other lawmakers issued a video urging troops not to obey orders that violate the law or Constitution.

...but if he wants to double down in dumbness, have at it. Arizonans will repay MAGA next November.
Yeah, that would be hard to defend as first amendment retaliation.

Get back to us when a solder is court martialed for disobeying a legal order.
Out of a million and a half troops, it will probably happen more than once, like Terry Lakin and Michael New, who were two that reached national news. We probably won't even hear about them from official channels, only if they go to social media themselves.

They were clever enough to precisely say only what is exactly taught to troops in Law of Armed Conflict training. They've got advisory lawyers, too. A charge for what they actually said would look silly to a court-martial.

"We know what you did, but we can't prove you did it."

Edit:

But worse: The military justice system takes "command influence" extremely seriously. When I say "extreme," I mean to the point of near absurdity. "Command influence" means nobody in the chain of command can do or say anything, however slight, that might influence the administration of military justice. Nobody, including the president, and they are gosh-darned serious about that. Military discipline depends on it, and military discipline is the only reason the military justice system exists.

Remarks by Obama actually caused military judges to severely restrict possible sentences in two courts-martial that were ongoing at the time he made his remarks. Obama said persons under such accusations should be dishonorably discharged, and as a direct result the judge ordered that they could not receive punitive discharges.

If Trump makes such statements, it would have the same effect in any subsequent courts-martial.

The Pentagon only investigates its own. If something illegal had been done it would be the DOJ. And of course there will be no charges, what the members of Congress did wasn't remotely illegal.

Sen. Mark Kelly faces Pentagon investigation for making video on refusing ‘unlawful orders’

The Pentagon on Monday said that it was reviewing what it called “serious allegations of misconduct” against Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona for making a video with five other Democratic lawmakers that urged members of the military to refuse to follow illegal orders.
The Pentagon said Kelly, who is a retired U.S. Navy captain, might be recalled to active military duty and face a possible court-martial on the allegations.

That could very well mean, "We looked because we had to, but decided we're not touching it."

There's a lot of corruption within the military and intelligence services. You can't have people in there who would damage our country and/or pursue their own agendas.

Who at the Pentagon is "reviewing this"? JAG? DOD Press office?

Cmon, the press office? All I know is Hegseth said it's a formal investigation. If you are that curious call up public relations at 703-571-3343 and let us know what they say.

Sen. Mark Kelly:
"When I was 22 years old, I commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy and swore an oath to the Constitution. I upheld that oath through flight school, multiple deployments on the USS Midway, 39 combat missions in Operation Desert Storm, test pilot school, four space shuttle flights at NASA, and every day since I retired – which I did after my wife Gabby was shot in the head while serving her constituents.
In combat, I had a missile blow up next to my jet and flew through anti-aircraft fire to drop bombs on enemy targets.

At NASA, I launched on a rocket, commanded the space shuttle, and was part of the recovery mission that brought home the bodies of my astronaut classmates who died on Columbia. I did all of this in service to this country that I love and has given me so much.

Secretary Hegseth’s tweet is the first I heard of this. I also saw the President’s posts saying I should be arrested, hanged, and put to death.
If this is meant to intimidate me and other members of Congress from doing our jobs and holding this administration accountable, it won’t work. I’ve given too much to this country to be silenced by bullies who care more about their own power than protecting the Constitution."

You mean who at the Pentagon will have to tell the former Fox News talk show host he's out of his league....again?

Millions of people have done their required duty, many of them highly decorated and honorable people who never attacked the chain of A military career does not give them the right to undermine the chain of command of the elected President of the United States. Sedition has serious consequences. If Mr. Kelly persists he will have his day before a court martial.

During his first term, Trump had considered recalling retired Adm. William McRaven, the former head of U.S. Special Operations Command, and retired Gen. Stanley McChrystal, former commander of Joint Special Operations Command, back to active duty to face charges under the UCMJ for perceived slights.

Then-Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper and Gen. Mark A. Milley, then chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, talked the president out of it, Esper wrote in a 2022 book. Milley remains a target of the president’s ire and his security clearance and detail were stripped by Hegseth earlier this year.

The POTUS could have responded, "well, of course. All members carry out my legal orders." Instead, he lashed out....

Sedition has serious consequences.

...suggested they committed sedition.....which is a lie.

Fox News Channel legal analyst Andy McCarthy promptly wrote: “There is no insurrection or sedition without the use of force. Disobeying a lawful order is insubordination, not insurrection or sedition. Disobeying an unlawful order is required. That is all.”

If Mr. Kelly persists he will have his day before a court martial.

Don't get your hopes up.
