CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Considering the evidence the prosecution had, and given the high profile of the case (and the defendant), with the scrutiny that entails, the possibility of faking that evidence to frame Trump is so unlikely, well, the Kubrick story seems downright plausible by comparison.

In the case of the falsified documents, it's not possible. Trump didn't argue that they were fakes. They were his business documents, and the defense tried to unconvincingly explain them into non-falseness.

If you read his tweets, it's pretty easy to spot his lies. It's not complex. Sometimes he says stupid stuff too ("Pharmaceuticals are going down 600%"). You can count that as stupid or a lie....hard to tell for sure.

You don't understand my argument. Because you think it's that documents were faked. Which is actually what another person came up with and started arguing against it as if I had come up with it (a strawman). If you'll look back at what I myself actually said, you'll see that I said misleading evidence or creating a false narrative.
In the movie Kramer vs Kramer, which is about a courtroom custody battle, a lawyer used a playground injury the child received while in the father's custody, as evidence that the man was an unfit parent. The evidence ie the injury was real. It wasn't faked. But is was misleading evidence used to create a false narrative.

I tend to think of rapists who brag about assaulting women and make fun of handicapped people as ethically compromised. Especially if they also try to catch glimpses of teenagers changing backstage at beauty pagents before jetting off to hang out with his really GREAT friend who traffics teenagers. A preponderance of suggestive evidence when there are also direct accusations, is not something you can just "dismiss out of hand cause you don't like it".
And if a Democrat did those things, you would (rightfully) also say they were awful people.
I mean, you guys act SHOCKED and dismayed that people might think Trump is a bad guy.
Why? Why is it surprising that we see the things he says and does and has been convicted of and think "boy, his critics are really out to lunch"?
Yes. And you are believing who YOU want to believe. This is not a groundbreaking idea.
Fantine is listening to people who know what they are talking about because they are smart and understand economics and politics.
This comment is a great distillation of the "post truth" age where any random talking head fool online can be as learned and informed as someone who went to school for 8 years and has worked for decades in teh field.
She listed the people SHE believe.

I do think they were out to get Trump.
And elements of his NY trial were unconstitutional imo.
But I also think hes actually guilty of many types of illegal fraud and cheating that are entirely worthy of prosecution. And then theres the election interference felony case in GA. Thankfully that one is slowly getting back on track.

He himself may be harmless (I would disagree) but what he reveals about our politics is very concerning. Even after he leaves office, someone has to take up the mantle of the MAGA movement and they would likely take a much more measured approach than Trump has so far. That’s what worries me along with the fact we’ve now totally normalized Trump’s bad behavior in office.

Well let's be honest. I don't htink the "left" have normalized it.
Once we get our guy in and HE (or she) starts doing that stuff....THEN the left have also normalized it.
At this point, I'd only say the right has normalized it.

I gotta unfortunately disagree. He’s the president of the United States and has been reelected well after learning everything we know about his character. This is sadly normal now and I don’t see us coming back from this style of politics anytime soon. Too many people support his style and not nearly enough care to counter it within his party or from the outside.
