  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's easier to hate ICE than holding people accountable for their actions. That's what it boils down to. The same people that do this also excused the BLM riots as a valid formula of protest.

Chronic lack and absolving of accountability and repercussions for wrongdoing.
Ok so do you think even underneath this generalisation there is something else along the lines a philosophical or ideological difference. Maybe even a spiritual or transcedent difference metaphysically that is foundational.

For example morality in general. Obviously we have religion and Christain values. So what is the alternative belief that fills this void. What is it based on that drives some to protest and demand that society and the world conform to a certain order of society and the world.

ICE arrests Episcopal priest who reportedly works for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice

James Eliud Ngahu Mwangi, a Kenyan immigrant, was arrested in late October and transferred to a detention center in Conroe. The Episcopal Diocese of Texas is calling for action.

In a statement, the Episcopal Diocese of Texas said Mwangi was legally employed by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He was arrested in Huntsville, about 70 miles north of Houston, according to the Dallas Morning News.

[He] was arrested by immigration authorities for allegedly overstaying his visa.
He should not be allowed to violate the details of his stay because he happens to be a priest of a Christian religion. When you apply for a business visitor visa you agree to leave the country by the date on the visa or apply for and get approved for an extension. It's the same if you are a mom or a dad, barring an emergency (such as being hospitalized) you are to leave the country.

The FBI is urging partner agencies to “adequately identify themselves” amid a string of cases in which those impersonating U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers committed crimes, such as kidnapping and assault.

“Due to the recent increase in ICE enforcement actions across the country, criminal actors are using ICE’s enhanced public profile and media coverage to their advantage to target vulnerable communities and commit criminal activity. This not only effects the victims and communities but also has broader negative consequences on law enforcement agencies,” the FBI wrote in a bulletin.

The bulletin lists five instances in which someone impersonated an ICE officer, in some cases to commit violent crimes.

In August in New York, three men robbed a restaurant and tied up its staff, with the victims initially surrendering to the robbers because they identified themselves as ICE officers.

In April in Florida, a man kidnapped a woman who agreed to leave with someone posing as an ICE officer, only to be taken to an apartment complex where she escaped.

In Brooklyn in February, a man posing as an ICE officer directed a woman to a stairwell where he punched her and then tried to rape her, ultimately fleeing the scene with her purse and cell phone.

And in January in North Carolina, a man posing as an ICE officer entered a woman’s hotel room and sexually assaulted her, saying he would deport her if she did not have sex with him.

The bulletin said law enforcement officers of all stripes need to “adequality identify themselves during operations and cooperate with individuals who request further verification, such as calling their local precinct to verify the officer’s identity.”
Only real ICE agents are allowed to terrorize these communities.

Everything ICE does is bad. Enforcing the law is bad. (According to some)
You don't think the way they are going about enforcing the law could be better?

Where do you see mistreatment of detainees being held for deportation from the Vatican?
They don't have any because Vatican City is behind a massive wall and has guards to keep people out

If he overstayed his Visa does he deserve special treatment because he works for the Department of Criminal Justice?

If he overstayed, whats the problem with him being picked up? Why is this bad?

We were all told that ICE would be going after the bad guys. Instead, they are going after priests working for the good guys.

This provides an answer to the question "Why do people hate ICE?"

So you're just against people who are here illegally being deported.
Thanks for clearing that up

Federal judge weighing ICE use of force in Chicago

Judge Sara Ellis is considering extending restrictions on force in Chicago.

Judge grants preliminary injunction against Bovino, federal agents over use of force: "Shocks the conscience"

A federal judge issued a preliminary injunction against federal immigration agents over their use of force during Operation Midway Blitz, telling lawyers for the Trump administration she found their evidence "simply not credible."

She said she is granting "complete relief to plaintiffs" and rejected the government's request for a stay pending appeal, saying they have not made a strong showing that they're likely to succeed on the merits of their claim.

The "border" between the Papal Zone and the rest of the City of Rome is large gap in the columnades surrounding the Piazza di San Pietro protected by a waist-high crowd control fence. The physical barriers around the White House are more imposing and those are a 6-8 foot cast iron fence. (Plus what are the vaticanos going to do? Pike you?)

They definitely need to work on PR
They should, but more and more it is clear that the cruelty is the point. I am glad people and judges are calling them out on it.

Honestly, this could have been handled better without the quotas given to ICE, which has forced them to go after low hanging fruit and following up every tip with a strike force instead of investigating first

Two courts urge ICE to halt deportation of man wrongfully imprisoned for more than 40 years

Two different courts have called on immigration officials to halt deportation of a Pennsylvania man who spent more than 40 years in prison for a murder conviction that was recently overturned.

Subramanyam Vedam, 64, was brought to the United States by his parents when he was nine months old. Vedam is a legal permanent resident

He is currently being held in a short-term center in Alexandria, Louisiana, which is equipped with an airstrip for deportations.

He has maintained his innocence in the murder case throughout his time in prison and his conviction was overturned this year. He was released from state prison on 3 October only to be taken straight into immigration custody.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement is seeking to deport Vedam over his no contest plea to charges of LSD delivery, filed when he was about 20.

“Having a single conviction vacated will not stop ICE’s enforcement of the federal immigration law,” Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary for public affairs, said in an email.

Well spending 40 years in prison will tend to lower your drug dealing abilities. Send him back. He was dealing drugs.

In fact a priest should be an example of a law abiding citizen. If a priest were to drive drunk we wouldn't be saying he shouldn't face the consequences for that cause he priest would we?

No we weren't. Trump ran on mass deportations. He said there would be a priority on the worst, but he never said that ICE wouldn't continue with what the rest of their job is. This is a media and leftist propeganda to say Trump was only going after bad guys.

I seem to recall having conversations on this very board with progressives about how impossible it would be for Trump to deport all 20 million illegals. They were all asking how he was going to get that done. So, pardon me if I don't buy the, he was only going after bad guys routine.

We all voted for him because he was going after all of them.

If there are people having trouble understanding why people dislike how iCE is doing their work, I'm hoping folks will be willing to share some examples. I'll do my bit when I can.
Why do people hate immigrants, whether illegal or not?

To be more specific; the radical left hates ICE. And and they crank out gobs of misinformation propaganda aginst them.
Kinda like Antifa hates Fascism and the right cranks out gobs of misinformation propaganda against them.
