CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Having the majority doesn’t mean they have the votes to pass their agenda. That’s where compromise comes in.

In every other democracy, a majority is sufficient to pass a budget. Giving the majority the power to pass legislation with a majority vote is the very point of having elections.
I do understand that the US has distinctives among the world's developed democracies.
1) no health care guarantees for all citizens
2) less robust support for the poor
3) Budgets can be stopped by a 42% of the Senate.
4) The debt limit allows 42% of the Senate to force the US into bankruptcy by having us not pay our bonds by refusing to raise the debt limit.

He's already been saying the words, "Vote to pass the CR and open the government"! The Republicans have all done that. So now it's up to just a handful of democrats to do the same. But the just can't seem to do it.

But Obama already took care of that, remember? It was called the "Affordable Health" plan. Democrats all voted for it too, so we're all set with healthcare--and it's affordable too!
But continue manufacturing problems that don't exist as an excuse for voting to keep federal workers unpaid, and the poor unfed. For political leverage.
