  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Greetings Joey,
Thank you for confirming, yes I believe Panagia Paraportiani is the church that we saw in images of a recent mission slide show. We checked some images online and on a Greece-based mission Tiktok video interesting enough (becoming a thing these days) and is indeed a wonder to behold.

Picture of the church on Mykonos sent over by one of my old ministry friends who's also evangelized in the general region. Modest and yet full of splendor and the joys of humble worship, as so many of those early churches have especially on the coasts and islands of the Mediterranean.

What a spectacular sight! Just imagine joining the congregation to pray at a place like that, now and centuries ago. This truly one of the genuine joys of mission work, you really get to connect yourself and your group in a tangible way to your predecessors and to a history centuries and centuries old. And not just as mere history, as a living community with your brethren who sang and prayed there.

Greetings Cecile,
Quite well said! This is indeed one of the defining drives that draws so many of us to missionary work. It's a connecting thread that links us back to our forebear ministries from thousands of years ago. Continuing to preach and spread the joy of the Good News. It's an extra joy to do so in a community of like-minded souls with the same enthusiasm.

We haven't been to Mykonos but we were on Lefkada earlier this year, it's one of the mid-sized Greek islands off to the west, Ionian Sea I believe. It was an majestic experience, particularly for mission groups. A sizeable number of beautiful and inspirational churches and deep tradition. I'm having one of those days and can't quite recall the name, but there was one church in the particular that was extraordinary and stayed with us. From the Byzantine architects, a redoubtable design and beautiful frescoes within it. Reminded us of some of the churches on the French Mediterranean coast. Even without the icons, but the architecture on the coast seems it was similarly inspired.
