CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Take your pick, I don't know where he would line up in the methodology they use, I saw a figure stating he gets ~500k views per stream, but that's not necessarily the metric they're using here. Granted, he's gotten a bump since Kirk died, maybe that'd make his circle big enough to get a label. And, granted, a bunch of these aren't so young and aren't opposed to pornography. Every conservative I know treats him as a fringe figure. But the ones I know aren't the sort to be Young Republican staffers, who are unfortunately rather "groyper", the ones I know are the sorts to run things. Hope that helps. Have a nice day.

I readily and openly admit I'm in need of prayers. Have mercy on me the sinner.
I do not believe that the Orthodox message, on any topic, benefits by aligning itself with one of the preeminent voices in our culture favoring Stalin, Hitler, anti-Semitism, and white supremacy. In my not so humble (at the moment) opinion, it diminishes any good that is trying to be conveyed.
Perhaps Chesterson and a few others think the extermination of fellow human beings by the Nazis in WW2 is a real knee-slapper.
I don't see it a laughing matter. ymmv
I'm really disappointed that Fr Josiah, which is someone I do admire, would make such a poor choice.

yes, because when it comes to that stuff, sunlight is the best disinfectant. our messed up world would be worse if guys like that only had to speak to guys like this

I don't. I oppose that just as much as I oppose positioning ourselves in alignment/admiration of pornorgraphy, murder and all manner of deviance in our messed up world.

I think his remark is more that people should be allowed to say what they want without being censored, and that the remedy to bad speech (like Fuentes) is to let them say it and then rebut it. However, that's not the same as inviting them on your platform or even letting them use your platform.

Preeminent? Judging from this week, and in other subforums, I think I'm the only CF'er who'd heard of him.
Nick is already less abrasive than he was at 18. I think if he becomes more well-known it might be a good thing. It's sometimes known as "selling out".
When a politician is running for a primary election, they speak to their base and will say more pointed things. If they win and run for the general election, they tone down their message and it becomes more inclusive. Or listen to Van Halen's debut album - all hard rock, no ballads. The next record had a dance song to appeal to more people. Fast forward a few years more and their doing soft synth-pop.
Nick has said things which are shocking to a lot of people in order to get attention, and it worked. I'd be willing to bet money that if he gets more popular, he'll soften up and leave much of the harder stuff behind.

no, I meant for guys like Fuentes. he should be allowed to speak to be rebutted. not allowing him to speak just has him speak to those who only agree with him, which is what makes it worse because guys like him never undergo critical thinking.
obviously no Orthodox Christian should support heresy, of which racism is one. I don’t think that’s what Fr Josiah did.

Fine. Walsh and Shapiro have extensively discussed this. Given the size of their audiences, they certainly have a larger youth audience than Fuentes. (EDIT: lack of prior specificity is because the entire daily caller/daily wire/etc extended universe has much further reach and is socially conservative in that way, so just pick your favorite)
As for becoming moderate, just yesterday's stream (Nov 6th), he said, and hopefully this quote to illustrate the sort of nonsense he's still up to but is not inflammatory enough to get banned (I will gladly remove if asked): "The Jews are destroying this country because the country doesn’t want to support Israel anymore." Not exactly straying far from his roots.
I was speaking a little loosely there and equivocating on "platform" -- it's not a problem for youtube to ban people like Fuentes, and somebody like Fr Josiah doesn't need to invite them on, either.

I haven't heard either of them speak on the topic but I'll take your word for it that they have. I'd be surprised if Walsh has much of a younger following, but a larger following could mean more young adults overall.

for the record, Shapiro has routinely denounced Fuentes. I suspect the rest of the DW crew (to include Walsh, since they are all very close) feels the same.

I agree, and I'm happy when Destiny for example, gets a large platform like Piers Morgan to tell us how God killed innocent children because they weren't looking at porn. By all means, let people hear this kind of stuff and decide for themselves.

Thank you, at first read I misunderstood the point you were making.
I watched the first video, unfortunately Fr Trenham did not rebut anything from Fuentes, he quoted portions of the Carlson interview where he agreed with him, repeatedly.
I haven't watched the second, follow-up video yet to see if he corrects this.
