Sorry the GOP got clobbered. DEM gov races in VA and NJ, Cali redistricting approved and the NYC mayors race. I think it only gets worse from here. I hope the GOP is careful when they redistrict Texas. a few percent swing and some of those new districts might not be red.

I think there may be a difference between the national leadership and the candiates. A lot of Democrats are upset at the party for not reacting well to Trump. I agree. I think we need a generation change in national Democratic leadership. But that doesn't affect my evaluation of specific candidates, where often the Democratic candidate is better.

Personally I blame Biden for not dropping out sooner. He left the party with little alternative to the VP. She is not someone who would have been picked in a proper convention. Her campaign of joy was completely wrong for a nation where many people rightly feel left out. Out of touch indeed.

I think there's a phenomenon across all of Professional America wherein incumbent leaders hold power for too long and become isolated and wind up living in a bubble, out-of-touch from what's happening on the ground. I don't think what Biden, Schumer, and many other Dems have done is substantially different than what I've seen at loads of businesses and other orgs where both middle managers and execs park themselves for a while because they have a cushy job that they (think they) understand. They don't develop leaders under them and they don't prep the organization for succession, so when they finally do leave, there's a vacuum.

There are a number of things different about the right - some rules, some vibes, some media - that help keep their turnover higher, so they're less susceptible to this, but they're hardly immune.

Yes. In a sense Trump is a demonstration of this for Republicans. He replaced a leadership that was arguably just as out of touch. It's always easier to do that when your party is out of power. In principle that should now happen for Democrats. I think there's some evidence that it's going to. We'll see what happens for 2028. Republican leaders didn't go easily. They really only started supporting Trump when he won. Democratic leaders aren't going easily either, but I think they're going to.
