  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Wouldn't surprise me at all, though I've yet to see anything criminal in her actions. She's right though, Halligan cannot decide her comments are off the record after the fact, that's Journalism 101.

-- A2SG, an experienced prosecutor would know that....
I agree that she's done nothing criminal, but that doesn't seem to be an impediment to the current DOJ.

True enough. Though, Halligan still needs some excuse, and I just don't see it.

-- A2SG, but maybe I'm just not as imaginative as the current DOJ....

“Anna, Lindsey Halligan Here.”

My Signal exchange with the interim U.S. attorney about the Letitia James grand jury.

Seems there is even more to this story. Apparently, Halligan using the Signal app and setting it to delete messages automatically isn't legal.

Evidence appears to undercut claims against Letitia James, prosecutors found: Sources

Prosecutors expressed their concerns in a memo last month, sources said.

Prosecutors who investigated New York Attorney General Letitia James for possible mortgage fraud found evidence that would appear to undercut some of the allegations in the indictment of James secured earlier this month -- including the degree to which James personally profited from her purchase of the property -- according to a memo summarizing the state of the case in September, sources told ABC News.

Prosecutors who led the monthslong investigation into James' conduct concluded that any financial benefit derived from her allegedly falsified mortgage would have amounted to approximately $800 in the year she purchased the home, sources said.

The government lawyers also expressed concern that the case could likely not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt because federal mortgage guidelines for a second home do not clearly define occupancy, a key element of the case, according to sources.

For government communications, yes. There's typically a retention period for all official communications.

'Making up new rules': Legal experts mock Trump DOJ over latest 'fatally flawed' move

The Department of Justice on Monday submitted a filing in the cases of former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James defending the appointment of interim U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan. But multiple attorneys, professors and journalists are blasting the DOJ in what they view as a last-ditch attempt to keep Halligan in her role.

Reuters reporter Brad Heath posted to Bluesky on Monday that Attorney General Pam Bondi claimed to have "retroactively appointed former Trump attorney Lindsey Halligan as a 'special attorney' for DOJ and has 'ratified' all of her actions to date, including her presentations to the grand juries that indicted Trump's foes." Legal journalist Chris Geidner posted the DOJ filing [filed November 3rd]and the appointment while quipping that Bondi "dressed up as a lawyer on Halloween."

Exclusive: Trump ousts watchdog of US housing regulator involved in mortgage probes of his foes, sources say

Allen received notice of his termination from the White House after he made efforts to provide key information to prosecutors in that office, according to four sources. The information he turned over was constitutionally required, two of them said, while a third described it as being potentially relevant in discovery.
His crime for his firing was turning over information that was constitutional required and relevant to discovery that gave rise to his bosses (Bill Pulte, Federal Housing Head) request to indict James.

His ouster also came about as he was preparing to send a letter to Congress notifying lawmakers that the FHFA was not cooperating with the inspector general's office, three of the sources said. These individuals said the FHFA director would typically have been notified of such a letter. Reuters was unable to independently determine whether Pulte was informed.

Pulte has circumvented the agency's Office of Inspector General in pursuing those three cases [James, Lisa Cook, Adam Schiff], Reuters previously reported.

Oh, that makes more sense. I thought from the headline alone that Pulte (who's name I couldn't remember) was the ousted "watchdog" (watching over loans for fraud), but it was the person watching over him. I'm sure this will go in to her vindictive prosecution memo soon.

I wonder how many departmental Inspector Generals are left in this administration, compared to the number of positions.
