You can also make an originalist argument that the intent was to prevent anyone who could not run for President from being Vice President (given that the VP prior to the 12th was the runner-up in the presidential race). And thus, any modifications to the rules for the Presidency (like term limits) would apply to the Vice Presidency as well.

That's the fun thing with "originalist" arguments - you can often twist them any way you want to because the people who actually wrote the original laws aren't around to clarify their intent.

Prior to that the VP was the runner up in the "vote for two" tally of the votes of the electors for president. Since in the old system the VP was the presidential "runner-up" all valid votes would have to be cast for *president*. With this amendment, they kept it explicit that the VP must be eligible to be elected president. The "VP trick" is facially invalid. Donald Trump is ineligible to be VP.

I think calling Trump a King should be edited into the list then. It's an unpleasant label of the president.

I think he likes Putin because he sees him as a peer and he seems to look up to strong man type leaders. A VP would not be seen as a peer to other world leaders and I just can’t picture Trump being subordinate to anyone, even temporarily.
