  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

As an American, I accept both the positive and negative aspects of our country's history. I recognize that European settlers occupied North America, often against the wishes of Indigenous peoples, and I accept the reality that millions of enslaved individuals were forced to labor in the United States.

I acknowledge the history of systemic racism that persisted within the American system for many years, including periods such as Jim Crow. I recognize that segregation was a shameful chapter in American history, and that the establishment of Japanese internment camps was unjustifiable. While American forces were liberating Jews from concentration camps in Europe, the United States was simultaneously placing Japanese Americans in internment facilities at home.

My appreciation for America encompasses an honest acceptance of its achievements and its shortcomings alike. I love America with all her strengths and her flaws.

It seems your dislike of American history is so strong that you want to change American history. That’s not genuine love for the country; true patriotism means accepting and loving it with all her strength and shortcoming.
I simply think that the difference is that some want to highlight America's flaws while others want to highlight its good. Some want to make America uniquely bad as if America where somehow separated from the rest of the world's history and how it operated. The focus on it's mistakes rather than on its victories and the good it brought to the world in spite of its errors.

You see it even today in the progressives. America has no real greatness. America is still bad. America is still a racist, colonialist, misogynistic, bigoted country with few redeeming qualities. And the only way to make her better is to become more like Europe.

I dont dislike America's history. She has a flawed history just like every other country in the world. And we should recognize her shortcomings but not dwell on them. The idea of America is a noble and great cause that has worked through the flaws to become the greatest nation on earth. The nation that has done great things for people around the world and produced freedom and prosperity for its people never seen before.

I recognize America's failures, but I dont recognize them as unique. I dont dwell on them and use them to say how bad America is. I choose to see America's victories over its failures and its ideals of opportunities and freedoms for all its people. Focusing on the negative is a destroyer. Focusing on the good is a builder.

And yet with 7 million people in the streets it was so peaceful we have people on here calling it a geriatric gathering of old white liberals.
Yeah it was a strange dichotomy of antifa and antiqua. Old white people amidst those who wanted Violence upon tgeir opponents. Why even some of the geriatrics said they needed to get more mean. Yet we wouldnt see any of this on MainStream news. But if That happened just once at a Trump rally it would be a constant cycle for weeks. Qe know thats true because the comedian that made joke at one of his rally. No one is claiming that all 7 million of them were lije this. But please for g heavens sake admit there is a sizable faction that are radicals who do support violence against their opponents. We see it in the polls. These radicals were cheered by their fellows. That tells me there is something wrong.

I thought America wasn't great, which is why it needed to be made great again?

You claim not to focus on negativity, yet in this thread alone you label half of Americans as people who hate their country and suggest they should leave. You equate those wanting policy change through democratic means with the "hate America crowd," and refer to millions of protesters with derogatory terms. These are your fellow Americans, so it's clear you do focus on the negative and point fingers at others.

Your post showed your love for America through how you described Americans with opposing political views.
