  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Even outside US territory, I would generally prefer to attempt to arrest criminals first, then maybe use force if they resist. If you're going to shoot first and ask questions later, do it covertly. But since it's in international waters, a threat to the US has been identified, and the Mexican government isn't telling the US to stop, I can't really raise an objection.

I just wish people would start being honest. Gun owners openly admit that they love their guns, but nobody wants to admit that they love their cocaine and fentanyl. Just admit it, people.
What a bizarre take on addiction.

What a bizarre take on addiction.
Some variant of “You just want to get high!” is a standard, bad, argument against anyone opposing prohibition.

I eagerly await this reasoning being put to the test in a court. If the reasoning holds and simply selling a product that results in peoples death is worthy of the death penalty then the gun manufactures are on the hook. If it does not hold the Trump admin is guilty of murder. Fun times.
illegal drugs are an illegal poisonous product.

And shooting someone illegally is illegal. Well done in being able to articulate a tautology.
The US military are not illegally shooting them.

No, you quite obviously did not since it had nothing to do with the military.
The military is following orders. The military is not obeying illegal orders.

People who shoot others illegally are not doing it illegally?
The military is not doing illegal acts in stopping illegal drugs from killing our people.

I disagree. Read the article that I posted in my post 29. Committing crimes has consequences.

Still, experts say, U.S. warships will probably do little to dent what is an extraordinarily lucrative market.
“There is an overproduction of cocaine in the producing countries,” said Alberto Arean Varela, a regional coordinator for the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime. “There’s more to smuggle.”
“We cannot stop using drugs,” he added.

The article notes the evolving methods Cartels use to smuggle drugs. And ends with the above conclusion.

Yes, committing crimes does have consequences. That boat blown out of the water off the coast of the Dominican Republic could have been interdicted by the U.S. Coast Guard....as they have been doing for decades. The occupents could have been prosecuted and faced the consequences,

This administration chose instead to sumarily execute them. That isn't the actions of a country that touts the rule of law.

And such actions will have little effect on the Cartel operations. They will simply find other ways to ship their product.

Two “narco-terrorists” were killed in the strike off Colombia’s coast Tuesday, he said. The latest strike raises the death toll from the administration’s attacks to at least 34 people.

There was a lot of money made in human trafficking during the Biden administration and the money the crime organizations now have to push drugs is going to make this a long war.
It is hard for me to trust Trump because he is not transparent and provides little evidence in regards to these boat killings. (not too mention this is possibly illegal under international law.
In mis-speaking, Trump has said that by sinking a boat he saves 25 thousand lives.
Data (2003) though shows only 105,000 deaths due to drugs from both illegal and those overdosing with prescriptions. So 8 boats is saving 200,000 lives seems impossible.
Trump too seems to have mission creep going on with this part of the war on drugs. First it was Venezuela. Now it is Columbia. Yet, one man in the submarine that survived was from Ecuador. The justification for blowing up the boats is widening by country and by what is a "Foreign Terrorist Organization." Evidence is scant as to who is on board and what groups they are with. In general, we should be very skeptical of Trump's claims and justifcation for military action, especially lethal ones. Wars are often justifed based on hyperbole, deciet, lies, and false flag operations. Of course the drug threat is real but is Trump being real with Americans for wanting to police the entire Carribbean?

In Christian terms, Trump also may not meet the moral tests that the bible requires. Several times in the bible is it mentioned that two or three witnesses are required to establish a fact.

While Trump likely could be tried as a war criminal if the USA is a signer of the ICC, a Christian should ask is the USA obligated by its signature in any international agreements? Specifically the USA ratified the ICCPR in 1992.
  • Right to life: Article 6 of the ICCPR protects the fundamental right to life, which cannot be arbitrarily taken. Human Rights Watch states that the US strikes violated international human rights law by not attempting non-lethal alternatives and by failing to show that the people on board posed an imminent threat to life.
A moral country should stick to its obligations. The USA has consented to a larger layer of government at the world level. Thus we are subject to those authorities? Granted they are weak but our leaders signed on. We should withdraw if we are not going to follow them.
