  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Should Trump have been banned from running for president?

You pay attention to Republican lies. I've already shot down the right wing lies that you believed.
You have not shot down anything. The left still brought us Trump. It is the fault of the left. Get over it.

The left didn't bring us Trump. He's a Republican, sort of. Biden beat him soundly and may have beaten him again, even with mental issues. Kamala came close but Trump is all on the right wing. They voted for him

Now I really know you either live under a rock or have your head in the sand. Trump won because a lot of democrats and independents like me voted against the Democratic Party and Kamala. Your party is an embarrassment and needs to work in a message that works. Your party did indeed bring us Trump. Again, live with it.

Not a lot of Democrats. Trump won because Republicans and Independents voted for him. The swing vote helped him.

The Democrats are weak but it's Republicans that are an embarrassment. They backed the only convicted felon in US history but claim to be the party of law and order but embraced pardoning criminals that tried to overthrow the government and beat police officers silly.

Again, Republicans brought us Trump. Everyone knows that except for some that are out of touch with reality.

Do you think Donald Trump should've been banned from running for president?

I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that Donald Trump was allowed to run for president again after everything that happened on January 6th, 2021. The Capitol riots weren’t just a random protest that got out of hand they were a direct result of months of Trump spreading lies about a “stolen” election and pressuring officials to overturn the results.

A sitting president encouraged his supporters to march on Congress during the certification of an election he lost, and people died because of it. That alone should’ve disqualified him from holding office again under the 14th Amendment (Section 3), which literally bans anyone who engaged in or incited an insurrection from serving in government.

On top of that, there are his criminal indictments... from trying to interfere in Georgia’s election results to mishandling classified documents. Any one of those cases would’ve ended most politicians’ careers, but somehow Trump’s using them as campaign fuel.

I
Whether you’re left, right, or independent, how does this not set a terrifying precedent? If someone can try to overturn an election and still be allowed to run again, what’s stopping future leaders from doing the same — maybe more effectively next time?

It's dangerous to allow a man like hin to have power.

What do you think?should the courts or Congress have acted to enforce the insurrection clause?
The simple answer was because the alternative was that much worse.

We are going to just disagree here. I’m one of those independent voters that the dems lost. I’m also Hispanic of which the dems also lost quite a few votes compared to 2020. I still blame the dems for the loss.

All Nazis are Republicans.
Perfect example of why nobody believes the left. Absurd statements like this. You seriously believe that almost a hundred million Americans are NAZI. If the nation were "NAZI" to this extent, the country would be much different from what it is. This is why you lose credibility—just made up garbage. There is no reasoning or dialogue with this. You either have no idea what a NAZI is, or have never met an actual Republican. My dad fought them in WW2. He was not a NAZI.
Let's approach it with the same contorted logic:
All Communists are Democrats. Phew. Glad we cleared that up.

Nah, facts show that only about 5% of Democrats voted for Trump while 3% of Republicans voted for Harris. You are incorrect. Republicans and Independents put Trump in office.

Lies? All progressives are democrats. All soft on crime DAs are democrats. All that espouse open borders are democrats. All that want to remove parental rights are democrats.

I’m not believing lies just observing truth.

"Soft on crime"
"Open borders"
"Remove parental rights"

Are all things I don't think a single Democrat has ever once promoted.

Those sound like Republican lies about what Democrats want.

All Nazis vote Republican =/= all Republicans are Nazis.

It's a strawman to claim that he said a hundred million Americans are Nazis. But it does happen to be true that Republicans are the party Nazis side with in this country. And, yes, a lot of Communists almost certainly vote Democrat. Though I suspect many vote for third parties.

This is, of course, a whole lot different than the claim made before that Democrats want open borders, to be soft on crime, or remove parental rights; those are all very untrue statements. That Nazis by and large vote Republican is a very true statement.

This is especially true since the current Republican president and his administration is, objectively speaking, fascist.

All progressives are democrats.

That's not true either. This ignores third party voters; or those who abstain from voting altogether.

It's true that, by and large, progressives are going to vote Democrat rather than Republican. For reasons already explained in this thread. I vote Democrat, not because I'm a Democrat or even really like the Democratic Party--I vote Democrat because I'd rather choose bland tofu than literal poison.

The only candidate I've genuinely been interested in the past few election cycles is Bernie Sanders, an Independent who has run on the Democratic ticket.

There are very few Democrats that I am genuinely enthused about. Most are milquetoast centrists who are more interested in maintaining the current neo-liberal status quo, and lack any serious backbone to fight against corruption, systemic racism, and plutocracy.

Lots of people believe the left.

I guess that you weren't paying attention to the conversation. I was making a point. He claimed all progressives were Democrats which is as wrong as my statement.
You seriously believe that almost a hundred million Americans are NAZI.
Hmmm, you don't read well. I didn't say, "all Republicans are Nazis".
This is why you lose credibility—just made up garbage.
At least I can read.
There is no reasoning or dialogue with this. You either have no idea what a NAZI is, or have never met an actual Republican.
My brother, my father, myself, and my best friend are or were Republicans.
My dad fought them in WW2. He was not a NAZI.
Nope, he was antifascist.
Let's approach it with the same contorted logic:
All Communists are Democrats. Phew. Glad we cleared that up.
Take that logic and reread my posts. You might learn something.

Is it a Godwin when it's literal fascism being discussed? Doesn't a Godwin require the invocation of Nazis to be in some way hyperbolic?

It's not hyperbole to call Nazis Nazis.

Another one living in lala land. Just about every dem DA is pushing for bail reform to eliminate cash bail and other types of bail which has the actual effect of having a revolving door for the habitual criminal. You see this in most of the large blue cities.

The push for most blue states to remove notifying the parents of a child that questions his/her gender. This removes the parents right to parent their children as they see fit. Many red states have added parental right laws to prevent this.

The progressives push for allowing anyone in and pushing for an amnesty for those already here. The effect is the same. This was one of the primary issues that won Trump the election.
