  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Fiction of ‘Occupied Palestinian Territory’ Made Israel a Pariah

But for the big hoax the world would be a different, if quieter, place.

Israel’s fair weather allies took depictions of famine in Gaza as their longed-for window to recognize “Palestine.” The blockbuster will be staged at a September sitting of the UN General Assembly, that forum of duplicitous diplomats, fickle and treacherous, inveterate feudists, liars, and extortionists.

It would be a storm in a teacup if the catchphrase was a mere misnomer. To the contrary, it grew into a monster.

The pretext for leaders of Canada, Australia, Britain and France to preen their virtue feathers couldn’t be more persuasive. The consensus condemns Israel as a child-killingjuggernaut. Small wonder that the four handed down a penal sentence chockfull of spite, ready to declare a state of Palestine knowing that Hamas remains a force to be reckoned with. As a minister in the Australian government put the grimy excuse for diplomacy

“Both Syria and Iraq had a long period where parts of those countries were being occupied and realistically controlled by ISIS. It didn’t stop us from recognizing and having diplomatic relations with those countries.”

The long and short of it is that a kamikaze neighbor dumped on the doorstep of Israelis will have de facto license to infiltrate their metropolises, towns, and settlements.

Only the UN could pull off a gimmick of this magnitude.

Of course ‘Palestine’ won’t exactly be real. It won’t however be a trick of the imagination. Call it a contrivance. Some dignitary will cut a ribbon and salute the colors tottering up a Ramallah flagpole. The ceremonials done with, Israel having decimated one Gaza, will be lured into committing “genocide” in a second arena.

The consensus condemns Israel as a child-killing juggernaut.
They are! What happened to Proportional Response as part of just war?
Has social media so escalated the Culture Wars in the USA that those we deem 'bad' are no longer human? (Because of Trump's many 'they are animals' speeches?)

I condemn in the strongest terms the horrendous Hamas slaughter of innocent civilians - including women and children - enjoying a music festival and taking hostages. I wish Hamas would hand the last hostages over right now!

But for exactly the same reason I also condemn in the strongest terms the utterly disproportionate and unjust ethnic cleansing and outright colonisation and occupation that Israel are conducting today! What are we up to now - 65,000 deaths in Gaza - about half being women and children?

I think Bibi needs to watch some West Wing where they discuss Proportional Response.

I applaud my Australian government for finally having the guts to recognise Palestine - as was decided by the UN a lifetime ago when Israel as a post-Ottoman then British Mandate region has a right to exist as a new nation in the region - so does Palestine - under exactly the same rationale!

And what of Hamas? Well - read the text of the recognition before accusing us of 'rewarding Hamas'. They're not to be a part of it!

But hey - as Bibi's gone so alt-right meaning ANY occupation or ethnic cleansing HIS Israel does is justified - we're all labelled antisemitic for being anti-ethnic cleansing in Gaza. He has used the word so much it has become trite!

The hypocrisy is overwhelming.

Colour me disgusted.

* So no one reminded the Narcissist-in-Chief that the West Bank is a vital part of any peace plan? I guess 4 Corners was right last year. Trump really does not listen to intelligence briefings!
* To make a truly united Palestine - there would need to be a serious 40 km highway built between the West Bank and Gaza. (Underpasses and overpasses could guarantee freedom of movement for both Israelis and Palestinians.)
* An international force could police this highway for the first decade - guaranteeing the sovereignty of freedom of travel for both Israel and Palestine.
* Without a plan for the West Bank - Trump's 20 point plan is not even in the 'dog ate my homework' category. It's "I don't know which class I'm in." It reminds me of the whacky story my daughter told me about an opinionated student turning up and doing a presentation on French artists and philosophers in the Indigenous Art class - when the assignment was specifically about how Indigenous art is represented in modern Australian culture? Ouch!
* Trump's going to have to go back to the drawing board if he wants his Nobel Peace prize! I just hope this extra little 'detail' of the West Bank can be smuggled in at the last minute - even though the area involved is FAR larger than Gaza - and FAR more controversial given there's something like over half a million Israeli settlers illegally colonising the place already!

Hamas is 100% at fault here. And they’ve brainwashed their people they’re “governing” to hate Israel and anyone who lives there. It’s disgusting. Hamas needs to be wiped out.

I have no sympathy for the actual terrorists within Hamas - but I wonder how many of the original terrorists are even still alive?

But the Palestinian people? That's a different story.

Imagine your city was walled off by some hostile power for decades. The power and water and trade are all intermittent and unreliable.

Imagine you were told you cannot visit your cousin who lives maybe just 50 km away in the West Bank. You are a 'security risk' - just because of where you are born. Then you hear your cousin was illegally kicked out of his house. He's so depressed - some Israeli settlers just came and took it. They had soldiers with them. They did not care that your cousin has a sick wife and 2 kids. He's living with friends - but not sure where he's going to go.

Why didn't he protest more? Oh - that's because you are both aware that your OTHER cousin was SHOT DEAD when he did so. No one cared. No one investigated. It's a homicide - maybe even a war crime given Israel should not even BE in the West Bank under international law. It's illegal imperialism - illegal occupation and settler expansion.

But who cares? Israel certainly doesn't - they have the backing of the USA. They have also hypnotised about 4 times as many American Evangelicals as there are Jews on the planet into being so called "Christian Zionists" who use bad end-times theology to justify favouring Israel - no matter what!

It's been like this for decades - and only getting worse.

THEN you hear the WORST news. You understand the frustration - but not the barbarity of the acts. Hamas - your countrymen - have attacked young Israeli's in the worst way possible! It's a full scale terrorist attack unlike anything Hamas has done before.

Your heart races in your chest - as you fear for your own kids. If life was bad before, what's it going to be like if Israel responds in it's usual disproportionate way? They don't practice "Just War" theory. They use Israeli bombs to 'precision target' some 'perceived' enemy lair - but the bomb itself crushes lungs in a 700 meter diameter kill zone.

---
Let's get real. Hamas killed 1,219 people and took 251 hostages. If we include ALL the hostages as horrific casualties of war - even the living ones because they were illegally kidnapped for 2 years - we're talking about 1470 casualties.

How are the Palestinians doing? Over 65,000 Palestinians dead! In addition to the numbers, it's the spread. At one point it was about a classroom of children a day. So much for 'just war'.

But the number itself? Is that Just War? Is that a proportional response? That's over 44.2 TIMES the original terrorist attack.
