  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How much of your income are you willing to have taken for taxpayer funded healthcare.

That is an entire multi-billion dollar billing industry that does nothing but move paper sideways.
Are you kidding? Do you have any idea how much SHAREHOLDER VALUE is generated? Think of the shareholders! So much value. We should all be thankful.

The most efficient cost-effective healthcare in the US is the VA, 100% federally funded. Administering Medicare is far cheaper than the 20% insurance companies take from the top. The VA is thr only agency that can negotiate drug prices, which makes a big difference.
Well, there is also the military, which is good enough for the president and Congress.
If you live in a city of 100,000 like me, the biggest employers in your town are probably the hospitals and clinics.
Fun fact: It used to be a sure bet taught to us in Air Force military targeting school that the largest building in a city was most likely an insurance company building. That's not always the case, but if it's not insurance it's some other financial industry.
After the ACA was enacted, there was more phenomenal growth.
Thousands of jobs are created with universal Healthcare. Thousands are laid off without it.
I would be willing to pay the same percentage as Canadians, whatever that is.
Do you know that ten years ago auto workers' healthcare added $2000 to the price of each new car?

The price of healthcare added to the cost of goods began 'way back in the late 40s. The current estimate (depending on how labor-intensive the product's manufacture is) is about 1-3% of the cost of goods and services.

It's not really fair to the insurance industry, but I have a way to fix it: Let them right mandatory liability policies for gun owners. I'm sure they could make a buck or two doing that.

What percent of health insurance is paid by employers?

According to KFF, in 2023, employers covered 83% of their employees’ self-only insurance plans

--

People looking at their paychecks should take the amount they pay and multiply by 6 to get the full cost. Plus, as others have mentioned, the Medicare amount.

--

Looking at things another way...

AI Overview

In 2023, US healthcare spending accounted for 17.6% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), a total of $4.9 trillion or $14,570 per person.

Root problem:
  • Science has extended human life.
  • Elder humans require more health care than other demographics.
  • The declining birth rates in the West has dramatically shifted the number of "contributors" to the number of "takers".
  • Compounding the demand and supply shifts in funding health care, preventable risks like smoking, obesity, poor diet, and substance abuse place further demands funding on our health care system.
So, how much we are taxed or pay for the health care of all will not change the eventual outcome. But lifestyle changes and increasing birth rates would.
Is throwing one’s hands up in despair and saying nothing can be done a US pastime?

Huh. That never occurred to me, but it checks out.

In the UK, it's somewhere around 20%. That's fine, I wouldn't mind paying more if needed.
That's around the net average tax percentage, doubt that is what goes into the healthcare system.

Apparently you didn't read my post.

You can get a breakdown of how your tax money is spent via the .gov website.

I just checked mine out of curiosity for tax year 22-23. On a salary of £51000, the 20% of my income tax was spent as follows:

Aah, I think I misunderstood before. You are talking about the percentage of the taxes while I was talking about percentage of income going to taxes.

This would put the % of income going to healthcare at around .198*.236 so.. about 4,7% , rounding up.
