  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

She may be making a joke
Maybe, but I have a brother , that's autistic. So, I can't imagine someone with knowledge of autism. Making a joke about it. I believe my brother got autism. Because my parents didn't know how to parent their kids. Lack of stimulation. He learned to walk and potty trained himself. I know a lot of kids are autistic, even the best parents,

Wow. I’m speechless!
What RFK Jr said about autistic people was horrible:
People with autism "will never pay taxes, they'll never hold a job, they'll never play baseball, they'll never write a poem, they'll never go on a date", the US Health and Human Services chief said earlier this month. (BBC).

This may describe some on the severe end of the spectrum, but it's a slap in the face for others.

That’s awful! Not to mention how many people with autism has contributed to society! Ugh!

A fertility medicine doctor, Dr. Michelle Vu, also posted a video on TikTok of herself taking Tylenol, saying "my baby won't have autism," prompting criticism from some users on X. One user wrote: "This is a doctor, mind you! Are you kidding me? Why is she allowed to practice?! Disgusting."

Trump's statement has caused a major divide online, with some, including doctors, concerned about the impacts the announcement will have, while others have criticized the pregnant women.

As Tylenol helps to reduce fever in pregnancy, some have warned that advising women not to take the relief could result in "fetal neurological maldevelopment," as high fever during pregnancy has been linked to an increased risk of birth defects.

Although, as more and more videos appear to be circulating the internet, doctors have called for these women taking Tylenol just to "stick it to Trump" to stop.

Dr. Nicole Saphier, a Fox News contributor and radiologist, wrote in a post, which accumulated more than 1.5 million views, on X: "Don't weaponize your pregnancy for a political point."

Should we expect anything less?

I have nerve pain originating in my back that causes severe pain in my left thigh. I have been out of work for a year and have to use a walker or crutches to get around. I've had prescription pain medicine but it does nothing for nerve pain and my new doctor won't prescribe it anyway.
I also need a knee replacement on the right side, prescription pain meds did help with that but now I take Tylenol sparingly

I'm sorry to hear that....

Even the makers of Tylenol say pregnant women shouldn't take Tylenol.
Not true. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/09/25/us/politics/tylenol-tweet-2017-pregnancy-autism.html

“Tylenol’s parent company, Kenvue, said in a statement on Thursday that the eight-year-old post, made in response to a now-deleted tweet from a customer — was now being “taken out of context.”
The response was “incomplete and did not address our full guidance on the safe use of Tylenol which has not changed: Acetaminophen is the safest pain reliever option for pregnant women as needed throughout their entire pregnancy,” Kenvue said, referring to the active ingredient in Tylenol.
The statement added: “We recommend pregnant women do not take any over-the-counter medication, including acetaminophen, without talking to their doctor first.”

They did make the tweet in 2017 in response to a question and said they didn't recommend that pregnant women take any of their products.
I don't know how you take that out of context.

The post is not available in context. Regardless, it is the only over the counter pain reliever/fever reducer recommended for pregnant women.

Ultimately, just add this controversy to the growing list of reasons for women to avoid pregnancy. The sacrifice in terms of risk of life, bodily damage, and physical discomfort is becoming less and less worth it.

Do you mean they shouldn't get pregnant in the first place, or they should get an abortion?

I posted it earlier in this thread,
You posted response from Tylenol but not the question to Tylenol, which I cannot find either. It really doesn’t matter because that was posted in 2017 and Tylenol has stated that is not their current recommendation.

Do they “recommend” anyone to use their products?
They offer their products (which, by-and-large), are generally safe when used as directed…but even people in mild to moderate pain they’ll suggest but not recommend their products.

This is normal.

So, are we going to "follow the science?" Or are you waiting for Dr. Fouchi to tell you what to think?

The important thing to remember is Trump is wrong. The evidence clearly shows it’s safe.

Future evidence, actual real non-fabricated or AI slop data may show that to be wrong but as of today we can say it’s safe.

My wife had a tough time during her pregnancy and took paracetamol a lot. My son is fine.

RFK is engaging in crankism.

Using acetaminophen during pregnancy may increase children’s autism and ADHD risk | Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health

As to "clearly shows it's safe," this gets into "used as directed." Then consider that what's considered a safe dosage has dropped and the interval between dosage lengthened. Then consider acetaminophen isn't by itself where this is concerned. Baby aspirin was once given to preschoolers and we all took aspirin for fevers as children until studies linked Reyes Syndrome to children and teens taking aspirin during viral infections. Then look up studies linking NSAIDs to an increased risk of heart attack and strokes.

Important Off-Topic Comment: Always ask your doctor about drug interactions, particularly if you're already taking medication. They may not know what medicines you're taking or had a busy day and it slipped their mind. There's a NSAID that interacts with a blood pressure medicine, and the common medication for COVID interacts with an anti-cholesterol medication.

Important Off-Topic Comment II: Always ask your pharmacist the same thing. I once had to pick up prescribed medication for my wife, and happened to look at the info sheet while walking out and saw something that suggested it had acetaminophen in it. Since she was already taking acetaminophen, I turned around and asked the pharmacist about it. Yes, the medication had acetaminophen in it, and no, she didn't need to be taking extra acetaminophen while taking the medicine.

“Baccarelli noted in the “competing interests” section of the research paper that he has served as an expert witness for plaintiffs in a case involving potential links between acetaminophen use during pregnancy and neurodevelopmental disorders.”

Sigh.

Merck releasing a statement on ivermectin use for COVID didn’t stop people on the right from promoting it as a possible treatment.
