  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do any of you follow MAGA theology?

This forum...

Pro-Republicans - Heavily scrutinized! Everything Republican is MAGA theology!
No one has said that. I implore you to do some reading either up thread or after a search. Evangelical religion and politics have been interacting for decades, this is a new aspect of it, and when you see how MAGA is being pulled into the churches in some places you may not like it. This thread is as much about how conservative Christians may be concerned about "MAGA theology" as it is about anybody else.
Pro-Democrat - You have got support! Everything pro Democratic is alright!
Democrats aren't even the subject of this thread, nor is this board plausible described as "pro-Democrat". (The mods on this section are like 8 republicans and 1 democrat for crying out loud.)

I admit, I’m not up on it but I’m curious if any of you are aware of it and what it means. It sounds completely ridiculous to me. Nobody I know worships Trump or have replaced Jesus’ teachings with some sort of man made religion that idolizes and worships Trump.

I can find items discussing MAGA theology but nothing about who coined it and any real examples of people that supposedly follow this new cult. So I’m curious if any of you have seen outright examples of this so-called theology. Thanks!

MAGA is a campaign slogan for a political candidate. It's not a religious movement.

Because it's peopled with conservatives, most adhere to varying denominations of Christianity. (Though not all are Christians, MAGA is open door).

But there is no "religious" movement called MAGA, it's just a bunch of conservative people who vote conservatively - more blue collar style. It's not one set of beliefs, nor one race of people. Just a bunch of Americans who vote.

I have helped send family through the Liberty University program. Of all the "Liberty University" type churches I have attended politics was not mentioned the first time. Of all the evangelicals I have followed I have never heard politics mentioned the first time. That does not mean all evangelicals have avoided politics, just the evangelicals I have followed.

MAGA - Stands for Make America Great Again and there was nothing pro-religious about it. Maybe one in a thousand evangelicals have endorsed a political candidate, but none I follow. To say there is a MAGA theology is totally ridiculous. MAGA is a term purely political.

I believe it's considered impolite to talk about politics in person where I live in large part, though my county voted over 80% for Trump. We clearly all have similar sensibilities whether we talk about politics or not.

I'm Reformed so I don't follow Graham. I have heard of him though. .

Most denominational churches in my area are struggling post-covid. To endorse anything "MAGA-Theology" would simply finish them off. The churches I know of that do well...

* Nothing advertised denominational. They may be Southern Baptist, but you have got to read into the fine lines of the statements of faith. Where you may find something like, "A SBC church" in 6 point fonts at the bottom of a web page six clicks away.
* No Sunday School
* Contemporary replaces traditional
* No political endorsements
* No issues of the age preached about
* Typically your encouraging type message
* Friendly

If I want to find the traditional type worship of my preference I have got to make the hours drive to Galax.

I believe it was Democrats who turned MAGA into something more "religious". To me it was always about Make America Great Again and on that front I support it but there nothing to join and it's not a label I slap on myself. I voted for the guy, but there are things I don't like about him. I just think he's better than any of the candidates we've had over the last decade because he's definitely NOT a business as usual politician!

Several Jewish Rabbi's have published material on President Trump as a possible modern "Cyrus" type of political leader.

To the Jewish mind this could lead to the idea that President Donald J. Trump may fulfill the role of "Moshiach ben Ephrayim" or "Messiah son of Joseph" who is anointed for warfare and prepares the world for the Coming of Moshiach ben David, [ who I believe is Jesus]!

A complimentary idea would be if Pope Leo will fulfill many of the aspects of a predicted Latter Day Elijah sort of religious leader?

In Jewish eschatology Messiah ben Joseph or Mashiach ben Yoseph (Hebrew: מָשִׁיחַ בֶּן־יוֹסֵף Māšīaḥ ben Yōsēf), also known as Mashiach bar/ben Ephraim (Aram./Heb.: מָשִׁיחַ בַּר/בֶּן אֶפְרַיִם‎ Māšīaḥ bar/ben Efrayīm), is a name for a Jewish messiah, believed to be from the tribe of Ephraim and a descendant of Joseph.[1] The figure's origins are much debated. Some regard it as a rabbinic invention, but others defend the view that its origins are in the Torah.[2]

Jewish tradition alludes to four messianic figures, called the Four Craftsmen, from a vision found in the Book of Zechariah.[3] The four craftsmen are discussed in the Babylonian Talmud.[4] Hana bar Bizna, attributed to Simeon the Just, identifies these four craftsmen as Messiah ben David, Messiah ben Joseph, Elijah, and the Righteous Priest.[5] Each will be involved in ushering in the Messianic age.

If I were to make a wild guess as to who might fulfill the role of the Righteous Priest I would guess near death experiencer and former Atheist Rabbi Alon Anava. Read Zechariah chapter three for more on this general idea.

Ecclesiasticus 48 gives more information on the Final Elijah Theological Leader.

And Elias the prophet stood up, as a fire, and his word burnt like a torch. 2 He brought a famine upon them, and they that provoked him in their envy, were reduced to a small number, for they could not endure the commandments of the Lord. 3 By the word of the Lord he shut up the heaven, and he brought down fire from heaven thrice. 4 Thus was Elias magnified in his wondrous works. And who can glory like to thee? 5 Who raisedst up a dead man from below, from the lot of death, by the word of the Lord God.

6 Who broughtest down kings to destruction, and brokest easily their power in pieces, and the glorious from their bed. 7 Who heardest judgment in Sina, and in Horeb the judgments of vengeance. 8 Who anointedst kings to penance, and madest prophets successors after thee. 9 Who wast taken up in a whirlwind of fire, in a chariot of fiery horses. 10 Who art registered in the judgments of times to appease the wrath of the Lord, to reconcile the heart of the father to the son, and to restore the tribes of Jacob.

Good interview with Niall Ferguson On Firing Line. Historian Sir Niall Ferguson assesses President Trump’s second term so far. He discusses the economic impact of Trump’s tariffs, the challenges posed by China, Trump’s attacks on universities, and parallels he sees between Trump and Richard Nixon.

What does economics have to do wit MAGA theology? Everything because MAGA theology is basically materialistic.

AFAIK, MAGA is simply about doing what needs to be done to get this country back on track rather than further into debt which will eventually collapse us.

Do you know what Motte-and-Bailey is? Hiding extremist or unjustified ideas behind reasonable sounding discourse.

So why are liberals always pushing the Bailey onto everyone?
